I sold my Man trans Supra and Bought a Solara with AT.
WHY? I commuted ~4 hours per day in bumper to bumper traffic. My knee had had enough. I also drive in snow a LOT, so Solara offers traction control in AT ONLY. Would I have bought a AT BRZ? no but only becasue my commute is now 30 minutes each way in the hills surrounding Boulder, CO. To each his own. |

you do realize dct isn't an automatic gear box right? I know it helps your argument to classify it but they are basically a manual gearbox. |

Atticus has "Fuck You" status now. Like all other people who drive standard. So the gist of his post was pretty much: Fuck You. Guy: I just won the lottery! Standard Driver: Fuck you, I drive a manual.

OP: my condolences re: your grandfather. Do your grandmother a favor. Make sure you can pay your lease, insurance and maintenance fees BEFORE you start to spend alot of money modding your car.

The only real advantage the manual have over the auto performance wise is launching. I personally feel if the auto had a launching program it would be a 0-60 in 6.3 second car. The 5-60 time between a manual and auto is 7.8-7.9 seconds with no launching involved. In other words fellas our cars are just slow(still fun as hell though) no matter the tranny. DCT's usually have a launching capability which helps make its acceleration look remarkable. Also Auto's and DCT's respond well to torquey engines too.

I did read the whole post, and yes, I did, somewhat, take that small quote out of context. And I did iut on purpose. I really wasn't aiming my comment at you, but the quote was such a perfect vehicle for me to lead into my snarky remark about the whole "man machine connection" mentality that is winding through this thread. BTW, my FRS is a manual, and I have continously owned at least one manual car for 60 years. My DD for over 25 years has been a series of compact pickups, all manuals. My '11 Taco is the first auto tranny truck I have ever owned. I drive manuals just because I like it. I have no illusions that they are "better". And I really do like electric starters! |

If my car was a daily driver I'd have considered the auto with paddles. I haven't driven one, but I've heard they are actually not bad. Auto is great for A - B driving. Especially if you live or work in the city.

My wheels cost less than 200 per piece, I rashed a bit of my front right wheel, girlfriend put the rash almost all the way around and she did some of the back wheel too. It's not a big deal to me, my current wheels will end up being winter wheels Since I'm getting a new set some time in the near future.

If it runs with a Programmed Logic Controller, it is an automatic. DCT is automatic.
