It is rated lower in the EPA score than the auto BRZ, but slightly better than the MT:

AT BRZ: 25/34

I just love small sports cars. But I never considered the Civic Si to be in that category. To me, it has always been just a sportier version of a very basic/bland car. Now, I would consider the Integra/RSX to be a sports car but of course, Honda killed that off. What irritates me about Honda is that they get involved in motorsports making these great engines and prototype cars like in Super GT but refuse to actually make sports cars for the road anymore. So on that basis, I refuse to buy a Honda.

To be fair, I felt that way about Toyota in the last decade too. Despite being in Formula 1, they also seemed to give up on sports cars but it's pretty clear that they have turned from their foolish ways and are embracing the sport again.

The Si is very much so in the same category, without question. In fact, the Si, in my opinion, is as close as we've been to a real Type R in the states for quite some time.

The DC series of Integras (RSXs) never received an LSD, in the states, and yet the Si did. The '06 Si was aimed to replace the RSX line altogether to give Acura a more "premium" model line up.

I previously owned an '06 RSX-S and loved it, but my Si trumps it in both chassis and power potential.

With regards to FWD versus RWD, I think they're both fun in their respective manners, it's really understeer or oversteer at the end of the day right?

I've owned fwd, rwd and awd vehicles - they're all fun.

Edit: One thing that's always kept me close to Honda is simply the character of their motors, each one is unique. When I traded in my '06 RSX-S, I loved my STi, but the motor was so boring. Boost is fun, but the motor just has no character.

Who appointed you the voice of objective rationality on this forum? We enjoy the twins...that's why the rest of us are on here.

Are the twins god's gift? Heck no, but they are pretty awesome despite some shortcomings. Hell, I'm holding off on purchasing an FRS until they iron out some of the kinks and offer more factory options/accessories/upgrades.

Every forum has fanbois, you won't dissuade them, and you sure as hell won't get them to go away, so all I see you doing is wasting your breath.

I can respect that. It's not a car for everyone. I definitely bought my FRS without thinking it through much but I'm still very happy with it haha.

And don't mind any negative comments towards the Civic on this forum. Of course we're all gonna be FRS/BRZ fanboys. I'm surprised you even bothered posting about it here.

The way I look at it is no car is perfect. The car that is perfect for me is the 20/80 rule.

The 20% of the time, it can be slow, can be cramped, can generally be a pain to live with. What matter is the other 80% of the time, it better make me grin.

Congrats to the OP on the new Si, glad you found the car that makes you smile.

I owned/loved a '90 Civic Si from new for 16 years and still miss it, the BRZ really reminds me of it with the light and great handling, but of course taken to a more modern and higher level with the handling, RWD and seating position, but it comes at the cost of some practicality.

Anyhow enjoy the Si, hope it keeps you smiling the way mine did and my BRZ does now.

Well maybe it's just because I don't like the fact that it's not a purpose-built chassis. That's why I always felt a little disappointed with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions too. Despite being drastically different in performance, you could still tell it was based on a basic sedan chassis.

Sure, I'll believe your new Civic Si is better than your old RSX - that's natural progression. But if they had kept the two lines separate, the RSX would still be better. And I agree that North America always got screwed in not getting a lot of the performance options/models which makes it an unfair comparison for us.

But anyway, I will never buy a FWD car again. I like to drive sportily and the dynamics of FWD always get in the way and give me a bad feeling when pushing the car hard. I want to feel a push and rotation of the rear and have a more progressive loss of grip. But don't get me wrong, FWD cars are just fine and good for most drivers.

Although Honda clearly makes advanced engines, the few that I drove didn't impress me all that much. The S2000 engine had no torque down low and the two stage VTEC engines felt like massive turbo lag. Plus, the newer non-Si Civic I drove felt really bland and underpowered with the annoying delayed rev drop. But I still have respect for Honda and believe they have enormous potential.

Got 1.9% interest on the 2013 Si vs the 5.65% I had on the BRZ Saved a few grand just in interest. Lost a bit in the trade of course, but not as much as you would think.

I redid that video. I'll upload soon. While I may not be a super into cars like some of these track experts, I have test driven or owned just about all of these pocket rockets under $30. The Civic Si 7th/8th/9th gen, the RSX Type R/S, Impalla SS 1996, Ford Mustang 1994/2014, Focus ST, Nissian Z, Mazda 3 Speed, RX8, MK6 GTI, ETC, I do have some idea of what I like!! Never got a chance to do a Mini Cooper test drive.

Do I miss that BRZ RWD, steering, and handling strengths? Sure, but not as much as I missed real utility and that Honda K series engine.

I thought a mag just did a comparison on a FRS to civic SI?? And the FRS murdered it.. But maybe I read wrong.. I have seen some fast civics, so know better then to say they are slow FWD crap.. But I still wouldn't trade my FRS in.. The louder noises in the FRS don't bother me, I have a 66 beetle with no carpet or sound deadening... That's loud lol

If by "shit talk" you mean valid discussion generated from the countless comparos from legitimate publications and the OEM, than yeah, we talk a lotta shit. And if you don't like it, get out of here. Without the automotive world's sentiment, a lot of this shit discussion otherwise wouldn't exist. Sorry if the world outside ft86club likes to troll other cars.

--
I still question this guy's intent. Many of his posts consistently try to convince me to not like my car as much as I really, really do. A car purpose-built for driving fun and enthusiasm. In essence, his posts dissuade enthusiasts from being enthusiasts. Most of us don't care for performance numbers yet he feels a need to focus on it as if it were important to us... to remind us of something obvious which we are already very well aware of. Yes, we are fans of what appears to be a mediocre car in his world yet isn't mediocre to the world in general.

If he posts with similar intents on any of his Miata forums (since they are similar cars in essence), then I'll accept more of his posts as genuine rather than hate-driven.
