I used to work in the city and I drove a Civic Si with a manual (They only came in manual, hooray!) and it really was not bad at all. And I have to deal with stop and go traffic on the highway every day coming home from work. It's not as bad as people think; once you are totally used to driving a manual trans you won't even notice it. Anyone who complains about it either isn't comfortable driving a manual or doesn't know how. Don't sweat it! :happy0180:

Good to hear. I just got my car in m/t and I'm dreading traffic. Everybody in my family lectures me how "horrible" it is driving a stick in traffic.

So far, its not bad at all though! And more usable gears (vs. the auto) = more excitement on the road

Damn, now I want to drive my car again lol.

both the auto and manual are 6spd, and with paddle's you can "use" every gear on the auto

The other day i had to drive in traffic when it was raining. Good thing i got mine in auto because it took me 2 hours to get where i had to be instead of 40 minutes...

Honestly one of the main reasons I picked up the manual, is because I have a feeling that dual clutch autos will get cheaper and cheaper and soon there won't be any performance benefit in choosing a manual transmission. I just dreaded the thought of never owning a manual car.

Glad to have the experience

Try it with sciatica/nerve damage in your legs.

I'll buy a manual Rolls Royce, as long as someone comes along and drives me around in it.

I've owned both a manual & auto frs. The main point I was making was that the auto gears a spaced so much wider, it feels like 4th is overdrive on the street, and 5th & 6th completely unusable.

In the m/t, the gears are spaced closer and 4th doesn't feel at all like an overdrive (has a lot of kick!) and I shift to 5th when "cruising" on the street. 5th is also usable on the highway (has enough pull to pass), where I'd use 4th to pass with the auto.

Just some observations. I look at it as - auto = 4 speed + 2 OD, manual = 5 speed + 1 OD.

haha well, I'd say if you have nerve damage in your leg you'd be... uncomfortable... driving a manual. :happy0180:

I haven't driven the MT so I can't really speak to that, but 5th really isn't an OD on the AT, at least to me. If I need to pass on the highway a quick tap on the downshift paddle into 5th and it pulls past the car easily enough.

I don't doubt you being right about the gear spacing though, I'm sure there are differences. I keep mine on the sport shift mode most of the time, such a blast to take the turns in 2nd!

Gotta remember after launching.. You don't have to worry about a mis shift, a botched downshift, a missed heal toe, and the gear ratio is almost the same.. Better through the corners if you have to shift as there is no weight transfer.. You knock the auto, but it will surprise you
Yea it will surprise you being 1.5 seconds slower than the manual in the 1/4 mile. About the same on the track difference as well. Ask me how I know. Go ahead.

I commuted 75 miles each day in stop and go rush hour traffic, still not regretting getting manual. Doesn't matter how fast the automatic shifts, they can't drop clutch lol

I'm just going to come out and say it...

The last 5 pages of this thread is just like every other thread that has come before it discussing auto vs. manual in the 86. Nothing but people in BOTH camps trying to justify why they bought what they did to complete strangers with little to no useful information for anyone.

Everyone has their own reasons for buying what they did that are highly personal and based on their own biases and beliefs. Big deal. That doesn't give anyone the license to get on the internet and criticize anyone else for their decision on auto or manual especially when its people just trying to make themselves feel smarter or better than anyone else.

To the OP... you bought what you did, deal with it or don't. You don't HAVE to do anything or listen to anyone. The only thing you HAVE to do is deal with the consequences of your choices.

Best of luck to you and I hope in the future, you are more responsible in your purchase decisions.

Scott

Glad you asked. Owned an auto, drove it on track, 1/4 mile, etc. Friend with manual same deal. Even with the trunk interior stripped from the auto FR-S it cant pull below a 16. Quickest run was a 16.3 with everything stripped. My friends manual WITH a HUGE sub box in the car not stripped managed a 15.3.

MotoP ran his car on the same track as a manual and was a full second behind.

Auto is slowwwwwwww. From a dead stop and around the corners. Manual just picks up speed faster.
