Let me repeat:
THE SCION FR-S IS NOT A RACECAR
The badge has nothing to do with the car and street racing. It can be called a Ford Pinto and people will still go street racing with it. People don't street race just because its a Scion. Its the nature of people making stupid decisions and doing stupid things. And like you said they learned the hard way but sometimes it can be worse than this when other innocent lives are endangered.

My point wasn't that they're racing it because it's a Scion, but the street racing is further giving the Scion a bad name, much like the tC. Sorry for my confusing rant, lol.

Please don't throw the driver under the bus. Many of you are jumping to conclusions based on purely subjective information.
Was he racing.....we don't know cause we were not there
Was he drunk.....we don't know cause we were not there
Did he have a mechanical failure or have his flip/flop get stuck between accelerator pedal......We don't know!

I am not an expert crash scene investigator, maybe you guys are.
I will give him the benefit of doubt until the " professional" investigation is over

By looking at the crash scene (and by no means am I a crash expert) it looks like a crash where high speeds were involved. So either way there was probably a law being broken during the accident even if there was mechanical failure. But if it wasn't street racing the other cars that stopped should have waited till the ambulance came. Clearly those cars had priors or didn't want to be involved in the investigation.

That's gotta be depressing destroying your brand new car. Aside from the fact you nearly killed yourself and your friends and all the innocent bystanders.

The facts of the accident are clearly unknown to us at this time. We can assume likely scenario based on the pics/witness, but they're pure assumptions based on a probability factor:

Street racing with the Integra and WRX involved. Possibly.
Driving too fast, no racing involved. Other cars just stopped to see if they could help, and called 911. But didn't stay around bc they didn't witness anything, or gave their phone # to 911 to be contacted for statements later. Possible
Driver (or passenger) had medical emergency which lead to fast driving, which lead to loss of control.
Driver was minding his own business when someone ran a red light, spun him out into a curb with enough force to flip him. Maybe.

Just an endless list of possible scenarios. We don't know which one it was yet. Just going on probability %, we're all assuming reckless (sic) street racing, which Mr Mackie will tell you is bad, mkay?

Could just be part of the Toyota DNA, but it makes me want a roll hoop.

Hope they are all ok.
And then you have to worry about the cage smashing your skull to bits in a collision. You'd have to wear a helmet every time you drive it for the cage to truly be safer than just the airbag.

A bit off tropic, but i was thinking of getting this car instead of my Z because of the very high insurance rates on the Z vs this car which seems much, much cheaper to insure. Now i wonder if this will be the case next year with so many people destroying these "under-powered cars that won't get you in trouble"

It seems no one knows how car insurance rates work. Insurance rates really depend on the price for parts.

As for the wreck, I hope driver & other young ppl carve this photo into your head. This isn't game if you screw up, you might die. Please keep that in mid & keep the fun stuff in the track & drive safe at public road... sound like old man, but IDC
Or kill someone else. There's been lots of mention ITT of how safe the 86 is, but it's not only the occupants who are at risk in reckless-driving accidents. In my area alone there have been recent cases where a driver loses control, leaves the road and kills people waiting at bus stops or children on bicycles. Please, everyone, heed the advice of ichi and others in this thread.
