AT because I have gotten more road head with AT than in MT.
Plus I can shift all I want without having to rely on her to do it for me. That's called being a gentleman. |

I don't get any of that, as my GF is too scared to ride with me on a regular basis.

I drive manual because it makes me feel like I am more connected with the car. Autos rarely have the exact shift point in mind that I do and it just irks me. Also, most autos did not have locking torque converters in my day, and it made the it feel like driving in sand. The revs could be way ahead of the transmission, so it made it hard to know how fast I am going based on sound alone. I know that sounds odd, but in many cars with a manual you know how fast you are going within a few mph just based on rpm pitch and what gear you are in. This is handy if you like to accelerate hard in the corners without breaking the speed limit of the straight you are going onto, and you don't want to look down. I bought this car because I like taking corners near the limit without speeding.
I hear this car has a great auto with a locking torque converter and paddle shifters, and almost considered test driving it, but I did not like the final drive ratio as much. |

Haha oh boy.. I seem to have started quite the discussion RHD (road-head drive). I will say that with AT, it would be easier to sit back and relax. Though with a skillful passenger, you might have to worry about road hazards more.

MT. 1st one. I have nothing against the AT at all. I just love being engaged with the car. I find it way more fun to drive and it's cheaper starting out. Also I'm still scared about what car and driver magazine said about people buying the AT and my friends would give me looks of why. Like they did with the S4.

Auto. Mainly so I can occasionally swap with my wife and get my V8 fix with the family X5.

Auto. But just to be sarcastic for those who want to feel 'more connected' why not petition for a power window and mirror delete option? This car could really be the retro darling if you had to manually roll your windows up and down. And how cool would it be if you had to roll your window down at 75MPH to manually adjust your mirrors! And remember in the old days when we pulled over to get out of the car to adjust the passenger side mirror. Awesome!! (Okay, sarcasm off.)

This subject has been beat to death but one more time... I selected the 6AT because I like the way it performs and the options it gives me when driving. It is just as "engaging" in manual mode as the 6MT to me, and retains much of that engagement even when driving in "D". In fact, its more engaging because in "M" you have to downshift through all the gears, not just coast through a few on the way to a stop. My left left leg even participates on occasion by engaging the dead-pedal. But, heh, if you like and/or require the MT, great for you. I don't think anyone that has the AT is going to start calling you names or anything. Too bad it doesn't work the other way all the time. Last edited by Dadhawk; 07-27-2012 at 03:11 PM. |

Yes there does seem to be a bit of unnecessary and unwarranted "us & them" here. I assumed we were all here to enjoy the FRS equally!
