Ah, we had the exact same thing. It's a revised 00C tune... they ONLY change the portion that affects emissions.

2014 will be here in a week if u want to do some baselines.

Or, consider it part of the expense of tracking.

As always, YMMV.
I've got aftermarket headers. So I doubt they'd cover it.

Also, possible engine swap???
that is their own DI, not a toyota d4-s, so won't apply to us i would think.

man, the new WRX is UGLY. as much as loved the concept i think this is THE ugliest impreza, I even like the current one better than this new one.

so that would have to be only a possible engine swap. btw, what about that common DI engines sludge problem? have manufacturers fixes that yet.

@aCab had his seals melt, and he's from the midwest. I don't think's it's related to the quality of gas between California and the other states.

There was an update related to emissions that was required. Has nothing to do with this di seal fix

so just to be clear, in your opinion, fixing the transient ignition tables with an aftermarket tune doesn't correct the problem?

There's only speculation on both sides for this, so you won't get a straight answer. Some say "yes", some say "no", some say "yes...but maybe damage was done before the tune was put on so the problem could still occur."

Latent damage would not continue to degrade, if the updated tables truly fixed the problem.

Again, debatable. Say the seals got brittle from knock but didn't fail. Then you get the ECU fix. Running at the track on a hot day, really spanking that motor, that seal finally says "I've had enough!!!".

I'll gladly replicate the problem for you on your own car, if you're really convinced that it doesn't happen.

acab, for example, did 10ish (?) track days AFTER getting a tune, before getting the issue; he only did 1 track day untuned. If 1 track day caused that damage...

I'm not convinced it doesn't happen. But I am convinced that none of us are 100% certain about whether or not the tune fixes it.

it depends on the tune as well. If the seals are damaged by knock events even with stock tune, then shouldn't a tune to "fix" the seals problem be a detune to keep knock at bay in all situations not just transient retard?

I've seen enough tuned cars, using updated base maps, fail, that I'm not convinced that the tune fixes it.

Perhaps I should elaborate.

Subaru is only supposed to update to the newest applicable rom for any given car. Any rom newer than the release of the DI seal fix will include that fix.

Each Rom has an identifier, mine is the same as when it came from the factory.

I asked the rep specifically which rom image was loaded. he specifically referenced the ZA1JA00C rom....but that is not the image that was on my ECU
