I'm currently more worried about that part as I'm not too fond of just glueing the vents to the fender.
Now imagine cutting all excess fender off on the inside and just letting little noses for the clips stand... one might then need to cut the garnish in the same way and hope that there will be enough space left between the visible outside of the garnish and the inner clips.
Even if that works (and, though it'll need some skill sounds very possible) this would not guarantee a good finished look. Very iffy.

However, if you guys CAD sth. like that up I'll be the first one interested.

Or maybe I'll visit a body shop for that...

This is one of the designs we came up with. It's just a photoshop, no cad designs for it yet, but the process is started. The idea is to be functional , so this side vent would actually be a vent into the engine bay area. Obviously, that doesn't address the other concerns of such a vent, such as its effectiveness, but it would be an actual open vent nonetheless.

you can move a lot of air through 6 square inches given enough differential pressure, which is the name of the game anyway.

I'm going to order a digital manometer anyway so I may try and get some underhood and on the hood measurements as well as at the fake vent.

You could also slap on a 12v Fan for the vent to create low pressure under the hood.

I noticed the hood lifting on my drive home today, only doing about 70-75mph but there was a lot of crosswind.

Saw a good 1/2" of movement at least where the hood meets the fender.

Even on the unrestricted stretches of autobahn, is this really the car to be burying the speedometer needle?
That sucks. Police cars here are only factory tuned. If you can do better than 180K they can't catch you, so they don't even try.

You could always install one of these on your hood!

Ironically on that Civic the front spoiler is probably of greater benefit.

After specifically paying attention to the hood, I noticed that it flaps at 120+....

After watching the 500 this weekend i noticed while looking through their hood cam that the hoods on these professionaly built race cars flex and wave the same way ours do (just at different speeds...) so could end up being more of a wind sucking the flexible hood up issue (like blowing across the top of a piece of paper) than a problem with engine bay pressure

I believe that both are true and that we'll hardly ever be able to fix the hood bending at very high speeds due to the airflow over the hood.
However, I also think that a great deal of the air causing this phenomenon comes from under the hood.
Think about it: the Toyobaru's engine bay is very well covered; pretty much closed off in comparison to other cars'.
Even my very own Honda was an underbody-slut in comparison, it was just THAT open ^^
Still, at over 160km/h, it felt as if I had a 5k front splitter, functional diffusor and adjustible rear wing installed, which I didn't. So my expectations were kinda high for the BRZ. Well, bummer...
Best way to confirm would be to drive w/o the lower engine bay cover, see what happens. Will enough air be evacuated so the hood will actually bend later in the process of acceleration?
I unfortunately don't have a garage to do that kidn of thing and I'd depreciate that action anyway.

I have another point to reinforce the theory that the engine bay air causes early hood lifts: the flapping.
The continuous stream of air above the hood should create a continuous rise, right? So how does it flap?
First thing that comes to mind: the pressurized air under the hood evacuates through the gaps in the newly-bent hood, relieving the inside pressure momentarily so the hood goes back down, increasing the pressure again and 'round we go...

i have had this issue occur recently too, but it was the first time that i payed attention to the hood. so i don't know how long its been like that, its probably cause the hood is so light weight and air is creeping into the engine bay

Wont the Grimspeed Hood strut fix this issue? I mean, if your hood is gonna fly open, might as well create some gas pressure to keep it from hitting your windshield momentarily right?

How common is this in other vehicle models? Seems like it would be very common. For example, I noticed this yesterday driving my 2012 honda pilot on the highway at 70ish mph. Is this really a problem up until the point the hood is ripped off? Nobodys hood has been ripped off yet.
