HOWEVER, if you can deal with that, this car is super magical awesome fun.
I do that in every car I own including the SUV. I completely forgot I have to do it until you wrote this.

I have the same issue with stop lights....and forget about using the sun visors. That pretty much just blocks all my forward vision.

The 86 won't be a primary car for me, but a weekender that spends most of it's life on the back roads.

I have test driven one, and I fit in it remarkably well.

I am 6'2 and i adjusted my seat to easily accommodate for that I just pumped it to where it needed to be at the first set of lights the visor is definitely not going to work but other than that it works great

I'm in my 30's and DD my 2015 86 I've had nothing but great things to say about this car yes it doesn't have the kick ass power like many cars do these days but it gets the job done. Low maintenance, fuel costs can do Costco, Trader Joes groceries as well.

One of the things I LOVE about this car is the fact that you can burn up a set of tires and it not cost you $2000 to replace them. How much do Prius tires cost? LOL!

The running cost is very low. The purchase prices is very low (especially used).

The old saying is absolutely true..."It's more fun to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow". With cars like Corvette, L1E Camaro, Mustang GT, etc.....is they feel like they are barely working at street speeds.....because they aren't working very hard.

Beating the piss out of a little NA 2.0L engine and having to time shifts perfectly, and pick a line that maintains corner speed is insanely fun.

In regards to the size thing. I am 6'3" and I barely fit...I am pretty thin (180lbs) and the seats are still kind of narrow because my shoulders are up so high.

Its not *that* bad and I've gotten used to it but its not an easy car to get in and out of.

I haven't been pulled over yet (knock on wood) and I imagine this could be an issue since the car sits so low...when the cop comes up to my window he won't be able to see my face unless I hunch over...

I had been looking for a perfect sports car to compliment my M3. In the past I have had FD RX7, variety of E36 M3s, STi.

THe E90 I am taking to the grave. Its well modded and I love the sound.

Have a fair bit of a diverse track/racing background from driving formula cars, Radicals, Vantage GT4, BMW Cup/Club race cars etc. and I toyed with a McLaren, R8, a 911S and while I liked them, someting was missing until got my hands on my buddy's RX8.

Unbelieveable sensation passing much faster cars with this Grand Am spec RX8 and I wanted to replicate that sensation (love hate relationship with rotary so didnt want an RX8) : [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Px3471ynI1g"]RX8 Road Atlanta Ahmad Lutfeali - YouTube[/ame]

I wanted a light weight car, I can thrash around on the track, time trial in (had to be under 2800lbs) and had SO SO much fun with the FRS after the drive I just bought it. Sold the R8 V10+ to get this.

Its red and most folks wont understand why I got this car. Can honestly say I enjoy driving it as good if not more than most of the other cars and its one of the best cars I have owned. Currently being transformed for track duty with some goodies but I intend to drive it as much on the street as possible with stickers and big wing etc. Kinda bizzare but again most folks dont understand and I dont give a darn about what they think either

I'm 58 and have put 54K on mine in just over 2 years, it's a sporty commuter for me. Really like the car,,, wife hates it. You observation about the power is correct, it's lacking but again it's a great driver. You say this is a weekend car and I dont know what your budget is, ever thought about a C5/C6 Corvette?? Goes like hell and can do the twisties as well.

Careful, sonny! "Old age" does not have to be monotonous nor slow! I am older than members that I have seen post their age, and I am looking into the FR-S as a track car so I can retire my current one (heh - retire - old age!)

I'm the proverbial middle aged man hitting my midlife crisis. I already have a motorcycle for times when I need to do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. I'm looking to replicate the experience I had back when I was 16yo bombing around in my 1985 RX-7. That car had 100hp and weighed slightly more than a starving bird. 14" wheels with what probably equate to wheelbarrow tires today. 5-speed manual transmission, light clutch, easy to work on yourself (loved that top mounted oil filter!). Tires were cheap, parts were easy to find.

Of course, I wanted more power. All my buddies with IROC-Zs, Mustang GTs, Probe Turbos, Fiero V6s, Firbird Formulas, and Trans-Ams....they all had more power.....but none could stay with me on a twisty road. That car was like a roller skate. Stuck to the road like it was glued to it. The RX-7 had no rev limiter...just a buzzer that would sound when you were "over revving" the engine (which was really to protect the accessory drive).

What that car did was teach me the old Mr. Miyagi trick......"Balance Daniel San!". I had to learn to carry corner speed. To feel the car. To anticipate when the tires were going to let go (only put it in the ditch once). I had to have a big enough lead on my buddies coming out of the corner to keep them from easily passing me on the straight. For the most part, I was successful (damn rich friend that had a Corvette spanked me all the time).

For my graduation gift (and because I got a scholarship to collage) my Dad bought me a VW Corrado. Supercharged four with 158hp. I felt like I was driving a Formula 1 car compared to my RX-7....but it was front wheel drive....and just not the same.

So now I'm older, wiser (well...at least less stupid), and I no longer have any desire to street race. But I want that same feel. That feel of beating a car for all it's worth and not having to hold it back. It would be a second car for me. One I could take out on weekend drives when the weather is too cold or too hot for a motorcycle ride or when I want to take my wife or daughter with me who don't like riding the motorcycle.

So...here's my question. For those of you who are in your mature years, how's the car holding up for you. Any regrets for not buying something with more power, or more creature comforts? At 6'5", 260lbs....I can't fit in a Miata. I'm hoping an 86/BRZ could be in my garage for enough years that I might give my grandkids a ride (my daughter is 12yo...so I have some years to go).
I am about your age and this car is everything your looking for. The only issue I could see you having is getting in and out. The car is low and when I tweaked my knee it was a bit tough to get in and out and I am only 5'8 150Lbs. Just test drive it and find out.

I was in a similar boat. Back in college I had a '90 Miata while most of the cars guys I hung out with had stuff like Grand Nationals, 3000GTs, Trans Ams, and the like. Since then I've gone through a few 300+ hp cars myself, but when it came time to find a new weekend toy I wanted to go back to something similar to what got me into cars in the first place. Now that I'm about 30 pounds wider (still 6' tall), I found the BRZ/86 a much better fit than the new Miata. So far I've been having a blast with the BRZ. I think I've only had the Cobra out once since buying the Subaru, haha.

Mid 40's - Mid-life crisis

Even though I'm 23, I'll let you know right now that this is the car for you. My step dad is almost 50 and he owns a whale (2015 a Chrysler 300) and sometimes I wake up to my exhaust note in the morning while he takes off ripping it at max rpm and waking up the whole neighbourhood. He always has a smile on his face when he returns. Trust me you'll be making a great choice I promise you.
Go test drive one at a dealership and then go home and think about it. If you test drive older models (2013 used), usually they let u test drive it by yourself.
