OK, OK. Not all the time. But will you give me "most of the torque, most of the time?" How about "all the torque" at zero rpm? Not to mention the absence of valves to float, rods to break, rod bearings to spin and a host of indignities that ICEs weigh us down with. EVs just weigh us down with batteries.

If so, put a 400 hp electric motor in front of a GM PowerGlide and it would be off faster than the Seattle real-estate market.

BTW: that was an awfully young Jason Fenske in the video in the article.

Actually, I'm just doing my best imitation of an EV fanboi. But, it's where we're going and, as much as I've enjoyed 60 years of building, racing, and breaking (rinse/repeat) IC engines, I'm sorta looking forward to it.

You got it. I'm slowly coming around.

Chevy should take the Bolt, ramp up the power and make a sports coupe (instead of, ugm whatever the current one would be called) out of it.

They could even reuse a name from the past and call it a chEVette.

The problem with BEVs is that the maximum power output is directly limited by battery capacity. There is a %discharge/time limit.

BULL There is nothing you can put in front of a Power Glide that will make it go fast! NOTHING!!
You won't be able to break it but it won't go fast.

Does this count? Just ignore the fact that the Power Glide later ended up spewing oil from the dipstick and would have burnt the thing to the ground had it not been for a suppression system.

I beg to differ. A fella I knew in Houston in the late 60s-early 70s had a Chevy II running I don't remember what through a powerglide. He had survived polio and wasn't going to be pushing any clutches but it didn't matter. That car was one of the hottest street racers of the time.

edit: It would be ideal with the torque curve of an electric motor.

LOL I was being facetious. Although the saying wasn't "slip and side with powerglide" due to the speeds you could hit! I ran one in a couple of cars.

Random question that doesn't really fit a subforum.

Yesterday I drove through a parking garage in the middle of the day with my lights set to auto. So in the dark garage they turned on, and when I exited it to park outside in the bright sunlight it took forever for the lights to automatically turn off, such that backing into a space was a pain in the ass because bright sunlight + head unit set to dim when lights are on + back of the space in shadow.

But I remember when I rented 86's in Japan and would drive through tunnels on the expressway the lights would turn off nearly immediately upon exiting into sunlight.

Do different countries spec their light sensitivities differently for auto lights?

i don't think so. just generally differences in the sunlight angle. if the sun was setting, it'd create a shadow on the sensor, which would keep the lights on.

Also might depend on how long the lights were on in the first place.

i was really close to doing that with this truck. problem is the rust--it creeps in faster than i have time to patch it. it's a losing game of catchup

by the time i'd be done patching it, it'd be a 96,97,00,02,05 ranger...
