I'm not an expert on nuclear radiation as we were only briefly told about the atmospheric Geiger counter grad students used. However, you might want be more concerned about ocean currents. Some guy living by Monterrey claimed that barnacle numbers and seagull activity has really gone down since the disaster. Is this true or just a coincidence? Hopefully another one doesn't hit in the next little while. Pretty funny watching the old guy drinking the water at the news conference lol.

Seriously there was an article by Dr David Suzuki (renowned Canadian scientific journalist and geneticist) recently stating that until the fuel rods at Fukushima are removed and properly stored the west coast is in far greater danger than we realize. Shortly after reading this it was in the news that the Japanese were actually in the process of removing the rods for storage. It is most likely complete now. They rigged a huge crane for the move and apparently things went fairly easily.

What amazes me it that since the tsunami all nuclear plants in Japan have been idled yet they manage to produce all their electricity needs from alternate souces. I can't imagine how they would have had sufficient alternate generating sources considering the number of reactors they were operating.

You won't be getting your BRZ back for awhile buddy.
im pretty sure 235 is the kind you find most abundant in reactors.

i work with radiation on a daily basis and i often leave my detection badge in my car and my radiation accumulation numbers are consistent of the numbers before i had the car so i dont think you have to worry about anything.

Around the same time our local paper had an article on Dr. Suzuki that he just might be past his prime as he forgets a lot of things nowadays.

I'm not entirely sure either. I just recall a National Geographic issue stating that some places in North America operate on direct current but I'm not sure how sophisticated Japan's grid system is. Last blackout I had to drive to the nearest strip club!

David Suzuki stopped being a scientists and turned into a green movement cheerleader a long time ago.

Wouldn't put much stock in what he says.

Actually, that was just at the reactor that had not melted down yet. The two other reactors that did are going to take years, even decades to completely decommission. In the meantime, what radiation that does leak will not present any more danger than the dose we get normally every day.

He is also a multi millionaire with several mansions, gas guzzling SUV's etc., who has a fake money making charity, who charges exorbitant fees for speaking engagements etc.

He makes scientifically untrue assertions and when challenged (rarely) he seems senile in his reaction, avoiding accountability for his lies.

He was made famous by his presentations on the government funded media outlet - the CBC.

He is not a scientist, he considers himself to be a media star.
