Wait, didn't someone else just say the BRZ has stiffer springs? Anyone actually know what the spring rates are supposed to be? Or something more definite?

BRZ feels a lot more stable and consistent. This will be a good setup on low grip situation like gravel or rain.
GT86 is "fun" as you can throttle steer it a bit more easily. But can be tricky if you try to go very fast on low grip. I mean you can always not try too hard and out done yourself.

Which is Faster? on a tight track, the GT86, as long as you get it right (i.e. no mistake). on fast corners, the BRZ, as it is more stable.

I personally would love to try both. But once I'm used to the hang-loose feeling, the GT86 would be more fun.

In that last video it looked like the BRZ had to have the steering wheel turned just a little further on almost every turn. Would that indicate more understeer then? That's how it would appear to me, but I'm really a novice when it comes to vehicle dynamics. It just seems like the BRZ is resistant to rotating. I'm sure that could be adjusted with some minor modifications, just like you could probably make the 86 seem a little more planted with some small changes. I'm still going to go for the FRS because I'm looking for a fun car and don't really care for the extras in the BRZ. Plus, I like the styling of the FRS better (would like it much more without the red accents on the seats). I hope everyone is able to get out there and enjoy these cars though, I'm sure both are great rides.

86 vs. BRZ @ Tsukuba Circuit by Akihiko Nakaya

86: 1'09"
BRZ: 1'10"

86 is a full second quicker.

Where did you get the time from? There is a timer on the screen but didn't stop when they past the finish line.

Looks like the Subaru was ahead up until the tight hairpin before the long straight.

Ahh, sibling rivalry...

"You're stupid!" "No, you're stupid!"

"You're ugly!" "No, you're ugly!"

As long as it's in good fun

the 2nd video had times of 1:25:xx, are these two different tracks? 15 secs is a lot of differences!

i think that time diffrence may be due to shifting. Notice that b4 and after the first corner. the 86 does not shift gears, while the brz does

Really with a 200 HP car the driver is unfamiliar with and 1:10 track? In a race car at a track you know I would agree 1 second is a large spread for a pro driver. But come on unfamiliar underpowered car who knows how many practice laps.

Honestly people this is most likely meaningless.
Different driver = meaningless
Different LOE = meaningless
Different conditions on the track = meaningless
Different outside temp more than a few degrees = meaningless
Different #of practice laps = meaningless

If this is the same day same driver and what is shown is the best lap after 15-20 practice laps then maybe you will have some meaningful data.

Driving on a track is very different than playing GT5.

Y'all need to do some research. Nakaya-san is no joke: http://www.speedsport-magazine.com/r...aya-,1074.html
1988: JapanF3 champion
1991~1994: JapanF3000 series 6th
1997~1999: Le mans24
1997: FIAGT Rd.7 Suzuka
1989~1992: JSPC
1993~1998: JTCC
1995~1996: N1
1999~2001: JGTC
2002~2007: SuperTaikyu 05~06 champion

He was also the tech expert and presenter on Best Motoring International. This guy can drive.

And he knows Tsukuba well: http://www.roadandtrack.com/racing/m...tsukuba_page_4

Excerpt from that:

Nakaya says, "I was able to push the Evo just like any other day. The car's setup is really ideal for this type of track. The suspension is tuned just right so the handling balance is virtually neutral. The Evo's sharp steering really made it easy to negotiate the track's tricky corners."
Nakaya and his Evo not only won the contest, they recorded the fastest speed on the back straight at 119 mph. While the other cars were struggling with grip and traction, the Evo breezed through, prompting Nakaya to comment: "This amount of rain won't slow my Evo at all."

That out of the way, we still have no idea how much practice time he had with each car, though it looks as though the conditions were the same/it was done on the same day. It really does look like he gave the BRZ a more half-assed attempt, though.

Thanks for the info. Didn't know the old old Integra DC2 did a 1:09 lol that's pretty quick for a 95 car with 1.8L engine.

Tsukuba Circuit lap times according to Fastest Laps:
http://www.fastestlaps.com/tracks/tsukuba.html
the gt86 has done tsukuba in 1:07.4, interior gutted, sticky tires, exhaust, intake, were the only mods

elise 111R record time was 1:07.14 and it weights 1896 lbs, well below the gutted gt86 weight

I should have said this at first, sorry.
He is as quite famous as Tsuchiya in Japan. He runs his one driving classes including a lot of car engineering sessions as well as driving techniques and "battle" strategies.

Actually, you can see the twin drift of the 86 and the BRZ here driven by Tsuchiya and Nakaya respecitively. In the video here, they gave some comments and impressions on them as well.

You're forgetting two significant mods, brakes and coil overs. Also to a lesser degree two other mods, lighter wheels and aero.

3 seconds faster is a pretty good improvement with a few mods, from what i know stock brakes a pretty good, stopping shouldnt be that much of a difference, you only get aftermarket brakes to cure fading after 3-4 laps where the stock setup starts to give away, unless the stock brakes and rotors are underwhelming for the car... like on the 370z...
