So after 8 hours, almost done. im definitely slower than a professional, but am really happy i was able to use what ive learned from my cousin in past installs and do this on my own. Got someone to make me spacers for door speakers out of wood. ran wire from door to inside via grommet on passenger side (slit in tube and vaseline did the trick). Where i lost an hour was on driver door, seemed to be harder to pass wire so ended up just slitting both grommets and passing wire through there.
Attached the door speakers and amp to crossovers, and finished up all the wiring. I didnt have time to take too many pics, but here are a few i got...ill take more when all is done. was a nice feeling this morning when i plugged amp for first time when i woke up, and sound came out of the door speakers (i didnt plug subs or tweets yet, thats all i have left to do then the adjustments). my biggest worry was that i tapped the wrong wire for the remote wire, but ends up i didnt have a blue with white line, so i tapped the blue wire behind the radio and that was correct) |

Looking good... but may I suggest that you spray those MDF rings with about 5 coats of bedliner because they will swell from water entering the doors.

i was thinking of doing that, but the guy who did them said it wasnt necessary since the speakers would prolly get ruined before the ply wood swelled (if that much water managed to get in)
ill have to fully sound deaden door in a couple weeks when i get more, so ill take advantage and coat rings then! thanks for the tip |

Agreed atleast put a couple coats of spraypaint on them. Humidity alone will affect raw wood. Everytime you roll a wet window down it introduces moisture. Not enough to hurt the speaker as its treated for it, but raw wood is not.
Looks great tho, definitely finish deadning your doors as you have planned. Take the extra time to unscrew all the pieces off the door plastic and deaden between them. Makes a large improvement. Also, you may have to trim back the plastic speaker ring in the door panel if you are experiencing buzzing once done deadning. |

cant wait to go finish the job after work in an hour.... question, with the v9 and two 8s, should i wire in series or parallel? from what i see, the amp can handle both options

Go parallel... even though the amp doesn't care

But remember the lower the impedance the harder it is on the amp and electrical system. I've been told by Steven mantz its better to run the amp at higher impedances ie 4ohm for best efficiency and sq purposes. but since a sub is there and you are only covering 1.5 octaves at most you should be ok .

Looks almost identical to my setup, I just finished mine and it sounds AWESOME. The V9 will not disappoint! and even under the carpet in the stock amp location mine is warm to the touch not hot by any means. Let us know hows yours works out.

I have two 4ohm subs in parallel (i.e. 2ohm) and the V9 is fine. I've also come to understand too low impedance can hinder SQ due to how it lowers the amp's damping factor (how much control it has over the output). However, as sbeezy mentioned, subs cover such a small freq range that any distortion or inaccuracy is likely detectable with software, but not to the human ear unless the amp isn't designed to handle 2ohm loads very well.

Can you please post where you get the harness from? It will be useful to others if they are reading the thread later.
I am very interested in your build, as it's about what I'd like to do as well (except a single 8"). Looks like the amp is a great fit back there. |
