Not to bring up an old thread but there hasn’t seemed to be any sort of root cause of this issue.
I’m on a stock setup and like many it will hop like crazy in the damp with a spirited start. Watching that video on the first page it looked like the diff bushings were a major culprit in the play though someone in this thread said they replaced them and the subframe bushings to no avail. I’d like to fix this issue but rather not just keep throwing different bushings under it and hoping for the best. I’m hoping it’s not a “sum of the parts” fix to this and it can be pointed to one flawed part. Does anyone have any success stories in fixing this issue other than “moar throttle”? lol |

I fear it will be a sum of the parts issue. You're trying to prevent the cyle of deflection, bind, unbind, deflect again. The only way your going to do that is to ensure everything will move to a point and then stay set, which to the best of my knowledge will require bushings with less movement then stock.

You are all complaining about the FRS' wheel hop? Go drive a 1990's mustang. Wheels jumped up an down so hard under loaded cornering that my door came ajar.

Yes but that's a 90's ford with a solid axle. These cars do hop, I can watch my shifter move 3" and can feel the back end going all skittish. If I launch control in second it will just roast the tires, no hop. I wonder if first gear is just too low to allow adequate wheel speed to over come the hop.

I went to the drag strip for the first time with this car yesterday. Violent wheel hop and traction problems.
Current setup 1. 245/40 Hankook tires - 20psi 2. Fortune coilovers set middle damping setting 3. Whiteline transmission mount insert 4. Whiteline subframe bushings 5. Traction/VSC turned off by holding both buttons down 6. 295whp Over the winter we want to build the motor and bring the power up to about 4-450 and do some drag radials to help with traction. For this wheel hop problem I am going to try Cusco motor mounts (which makes a big difference on STI), Whiteline diff bushings. Not really sure where to go from there. Anyone solve this issue yet? 18mm hotchkiss, I'm going to try unhooking it at the track next year.

I think the best way to start is the subframe bushing and differential bushing.
But it's so difficult to fixe the wheel up completly with indenpendant suspension setup this car have. My friend on a 350z fixe a lot of wheel up with installing differentiel alluminum bushing.

Oh man, I know this specific post is ancient but I finally got around to reading this thread. The shifter thing really had me worried. I was going to ask on the forum but I was afraid of the answer. Glad to know that it is from the wheel hop in the damp.
