I usually run three HPDE weekends (so six total days on track) on a change, and send a sample of the used oil to Blackstone labs. The results come back the same with Amsoil or Valvoline synpower, so most of the time I just run Valvoline. Plus the "American owned and operated" on the bottle seals the deal!

Line up five FR-S cars with used oil in them. Start them up, let ol @Ultramaroon do his feelie/touchie/hearie/mind meld thingie with each one.

Now, in Ultramaroon's absence, change the oil in one of the cars. Run all five cars for five minutes.

Now ask ol "7th sense Ultra" to pick out the car that had just had its oil changed.

Yes, betting would be allowed.

@Tcoat would be the judge.

Beers for all -

I'd take that bet. I hear it as well. It's just an overall mechanical harshness sound that is reduced when a fresh load of oil is in the sump. If you're talking measurable wear on individual components being the only prooff of it's existance, just remember that if you measure a single parameter/dimension in a motor, the amount of change is very small. However, the engine is an entire system of moving components, and the total accumulation of those minute changes becomes a faintly audible difference in sound.

I think we have narrowed it down to only 1 correct answer on the best oil after a bazillion posts on what brand of oil to use.

NEW oil is the best to use!

I was using 0w-20 Mobil 1, but now that I am FI with a Harrop SC I use full synthetic at 5w-30. Currently, I have AMSOIL in the engine, trans and diff for the last 3k. I can’t tell the difference with the engine, but I don’t expect to tell a difference, yet the shifts do feel smoother. I change my oil more than the recommendations, yet it is worth noting AMSOIL says the oil is potentially good for 12 months or 25k miles.

OK, you're ON. Organize another experiment in your area. Video tape the proceedings and @Tcoat will judge -

That sounds like there would be brass poles involved...

I want no further part of this!
It is something that can not be proven nor disproven and I have indeed seen stranger abilities in people.

I will amend my prior statement but stand by it.

OK, Tcoat has recused himself from this experiment - and that's OK.

Welp, folks, shall we just forgo the oil experiment and focus on the brass pole dancing - ??

Thank you for explaining it much more succinctly than I could have. I was killing myself over it.

My father-in-law builds engines and has done so since the 60's. He buys cars with issues, fixes them (he does everything from upholstery to body work to rebuilding the engine but the engine is his specialty). The dude has 10w-30 running in his veins.

He says Amsoil is the best oil on the market, but it is very expensive and it's hard to find (you have to know a vendor in most cases- in my area I only know of one place that carries it in stock).

He says that Mobil-1 is not as good as it used to be. He pointed to some oil analysis from a few years ago and personal experience.

Royal Purple is the best oil overall. Easy to find, not too expensive and it is a great oil- almost as good as Amsoil. My wife and I both run RP on his suggestion.

This poll/thread looks very similar to the way that 'naturpathic' "medicines" get picked/developed.
