Amsoil vs Mobil 1 vs Royal Purple

which of these three oils is BEST for our cars?

in terms of better gas mileage, smoother idle, better performance, ect.

i have heard that mobil 1 isnt good for boxer engines, but is that true for our cars?

i added a poll

Why isn't there a 4th option for Potato?

Swabodda 10-01-2018 09:25 PM

Perhaps whatever comes in the car from Subaru? Haven't done a change yet so I don't even know what it is.

humfrz 10-01-2018 09:25 PM

IMHO, it don't matter. As long as the oil is full synthetic and is of the proper weight - it's good for these cars.

So, I didn't vote.

PS - @Twin-Dragons , I suggest you not overthink this oil thing - ;)

I just put Eneos Sustina in mine last week. I can notice already I difference in the idle vibrations and the overall smoothness throughout all RPMs. Also it seems to run a tad cooler.

As far as economy I can’t speak on that yet, it’s just too soon.

Option #4: Whatever is to spec per the manual and is on sale.

Who ever told you mobile 1 is bad for "our" engines is a retarded fanboy that should not procreate.

As long as it has good clean oil any motherfreaking brand will do.

You want to be a fanboy and pay what ever price and wait for it to ship then fine by me. Or you could just get any brand at your local auto parts store/Walmart/gas station.

EXACTLY, brands are irrelevant except for whatever additive package they swear by. What effects idle, gas mileage and performance, is the oil weight. Running 5w20, 5w30 decreases mpg and 0w20 which is reccomended gives the best mpg and such

ToySub1946 10-01-2018 10:28 PM

The best oil is whichever is the cheapest, meeting factory specs.

Currently that's Mobil 1 at Wallyworld.

$22.88 for a 5 quart container.

TommyW 10-01-2018 10:41 PM

They're all good. I always had good luck with Mobil 1 with my 911's so I use it in the 86

DarkPira7e 10-01-2018 10:41 PM

I just want to add that the additives are exactly why brand choice can be imperative. Be wary, there is a difference. Only under intense circumstances. In the not so distant past, engines weren't this advanced and the oil you ran could affect the longevity. Those of us who watched Mobil1 shear while amsoil persevered will know our own truths.

Maybe it's all crazy talk now, and everything is equal. But those of us who have a preference maybe not have such an opinion without good reason...

I do want to say that for our cars, I don't think there's going to be much of a difference, as you're all saying. Maybe I'm just blowing hot air, sorry.

Somebody's jealous.

Any fresh oil will feel smoother. Brand doesn't mean shit. Change it when it doesn't feel smooth anymore.

Now, I will agree, back in the day, fresh oil would feel smoother when rubbed between your thumb and forefinger. While dirty oil would feel slightly gritty.

OK, I understand now -
