FYI the Demon is NOT illegal to drive on the track. If a car can run below 9.9 seconds then it would become illegal. The Demon pulled a sub 9.9 second run with a professional driver set up by the engineers that built the car and countless others getting everything perfect for the run.
Joe Smoo with $100k to waste on fun weekends is not going to pull sub 9.9 times and will be lucky to come in under 11 seconds.

The track will not stop you from making that first run just because Dodge advertised a lower then 9.9 second time. They will let you run, and run again and continue to run the car as many times as you like until you actually do get a run under 9.9 seconds.

When someone finally does sub 10's is the car banned or the combination of that driver and that car? Could the wife then try her go at a sub 10 time too?

And, to further this logic, someone could bring an untested top fuel car to the track and race with no cage, no fuel tank, no suit, just basics because yea, it could only go 15's, and the track owners don't know until you run a five second time what you got.

Look, I know people who have run sub X time and got booted from the track with a mean look from the track workers to get a cage or x y or z.

My point is a sub 10 car needs a lot of extra equipment and a NHRA license. I doubt a stock Demon with an unlicensed NHRA driver will get a shot down the track.

I had that exact thought. I'm pretty sure the powers that be at the track, if for no other reason than liability, are not going to let you run a car that they know has the potential to run a 9.9. If they know a Demon has the potential, and they also know you are an amateur, I doubt they are going to risk their livelihood on you killing yourself.

The main use of a car like this is to be towed on a trailer to car shows so people can Oooh and Ahh at it and the owner can look like a moron as people ask him questions and the only answer he knows is what kind of wax he uses and brand of diaper.

Bullshit!
That is like saying the only people that buy Twins are flat brim hat wearing, vapers that are in entry level IT jobs.
So the car is not to your taste that means anybody that does like it or buys one is a moron? More of these will hit the strip than any Twins will ever see a track and the owners will know more about them then the average person on here knows about their car.

This is the the problem they are likely having a shitload of meetings on. The current rule is that until an individual car with a specific driver breaks the various times they remain in the class in which they are registered. The theory that a car has the potential to break the limits does not mean it will so until it actually does there is no violation of class. This is why Irace's buddies got kicked out when they did exceed the limits in their class. We used to actually celebrate those moments back in my day on the strip.
Another issue that this car raises (that don't think I have seen mentioned) is that since it is bith a production vehicle and street legal it can run in the various street classes. Unless they are running bracket it will blow everything else away even if it doesn't do the 9.9. This will really throw the whole scene into disorder since who would bother even trying to go against it.
I bet the Borad is scrambling to make several rule changes just to deal with this one new car!

It's banned from production car competition...

It's sort of the equivalent of someone who buys a Viper ACR for its lap times and never takes it to the track. Except in this case even if you wanted to take the car out, you would literally be barred from it. Seems an odd way to market the car. It's like Dodge is counting on the buyers to either be guys who only care about 1/4 mile bragging rights but never want to try it for themselves, or guys who are willing to hack up their shiny new $90k car to put in the necessary cage.

It's a cool car but I guess I don't really "get" it.

It's not banned from the track, it's banned from nhra production car competition because it isn't a competition, this car wins hands down.

From what I understand if you run a sub-10 second pass which this car is capable of, your car is banned until you implement all of the safety measures required for sub-10 second cars (full cage, fire suppression, safety equipment, etc.)
