I left my FR-S at the dealership on Saturday because of the CEL. It also has been running like total crap sometimes and I'm getting tired of that. I called them today to see if there was an update and I was told Toyota Canada has no repair yet, the car is driveable, the codes are cleared, so come pick it up. My main concern has always been having the car stall in a bad situation like rush hour traffic would not be acceptable. Just before I was to leave work and pick it up, the service manager called to say I should wait and keep their loaner for a while yet (thank you!). It sounded like he was just as frustrated with Toyota because they (Toyota) are saying nothing about what the problem even to them and won't even tell them when to expect a fix. Days, weeks, months? I've been waiting almost 2 months now since the idle issues caused the first stall. I couldn't even drive the car friday night it was running so bad...

Here is my service report for your reference. No more CEL. I've put another 200+ miles since I picked up the car.

Interesting all of this reading; I just went throgh all 26 pages of posts.
Here is my issue with my car and a little history.
Bought it 31 May and it just hit as of today 2,800 miles. No I don't drive it much and when I do I don't drive it hard.

I do have the idle dip, I have had the HPFP chirps since day one, but mainly when the pump heats up, in any gear besides take-off from 1st if I mash the gas pedal I get this odd almost knocking sound or as if the fuel pump is unable to keep up...this is very recent, and my clutch downright sucks. First start of the day takes 2 pumps to get into 1st, then going into second it hesitates as well as going into 3rd. No CEL, no traction lights or anything like that.

However, 2 other friends here have had fuel pumps replaced and are now getting new engines because of the cam-shaft issue. One of them has had the same clutch problem I have and they replaced something, but forgot what...I know this doesn't help anyone.

Other than that the backseat rattles. Car is going in for clutch issue and will fish for info on everything else because my dealer is excellent and wouldn't go anywhere else.

I cannot believe how abruptly this thread ended! I also read every posting of this 26 page topic and I feel I have gotten to know many of you. I also feel bad for those that saw their excitement for this new car die with this, and the other problems that have been reported.

My question is: has Subaru and Toyota fixed this problem and what was the final cure?

I am here as I will be purchasing a FR-S next year, wanted one this year but the year "13" and the first model year put me off for 2013. Does anyone hear of the 14 model year coming sooner than normal so that they can get past this bad experience?

I guess I'll throw in a update in here. Been almost 1 month and almost 1k mile later the car haven't had any issues after the ECU reflash.

There's another thread that is stickied at the top.

But, that thread has slowed down too. I think people have just got tired talking about this. There's also been less followup from those who have issues even after a new ECU. If they accepted some compensation, they may probably be legally bound not to discuss this online any more. Myself, I was hoping to have my car GONE friday, but that didn't happen.

Just so you know in Japanese culture 4 has bad connotations so the year 14 would be far less lucky than 13.

You pays your money and you takes your chances!

Finally test drove one with the manual transmission...what a blast! And it is a beautiful automobile. While waiting for the key I noticed that a dealer "add-on" was a Body Kit and added $4900 to the cost of the car. I asked two salesmen what it was and neither knew for sure?

And Rob, I never heard any unusual problems with Japanese cars in 1984, 1994, or 2004. But the year 13 just doesn’t sound lucky to me for some reason...

7600 miles and I've been clean. I've got some warranty parts on order, but the CEL has stayed away.

good to hear im scuured!

im at 700 miles just have a hpfp chirp one in a while.

trying to do what the manual says for break in since i dont want to give any excuses to have them say you beat on the car before break in we wont do warrantee fixes.

havent brought the car past 4000 yet. havent matted the pedal. havent made abrupt stops or quick accells from dead stop. i am putting some load on the engine though to set the piston rings in.

car runs nice and smooth so far. trans feels good diff feels good keeping my fingers crossed.

I hate to say it, but it will probably come back. This happened to a few folks back in July/August/September and the lights always came back.
