So just to confirm, this kit is purely for looks or weight, with no notable performance gains?

Do you have any numbers you can share proving slight variances?

Thanks

I was wondering the same.
Do these fans have higher flow over OEM ?
Is the overall fan shroud lighter or thinner ?

Thanks for the comments guys! The primary benefit of this kit is in terms of space savings and aesthetics. Our fans do not outperform the factory units in terms of flow, however they provide extremely similar cooling characteristics in terms of how quickly fluid temperatures can be dropped in long duration idle conditions. Cooling performance will be identical to that of the stock shroud. I do not have any information in regards to the factory shroud weight, however I would have to assume our setup cuts a pound or two from the factory piece (not substantial).

Our fan shroud assembly is thinner than the factory setup, with a lot of the difference being shown around the cage area of the stock fans. Here we were able to free up some additional space, which should help with clearance on vehicles equipped with a turbocharger in the factory airbox area.

Thanks

Whoops! Looks like our forum sponsorship lapsed and our threads were removed. We should have our vendor status renewed (and threads restored) by tomorrow.

Just sent you a PM with our pre-sale link!

Thanks

Confirmed shroud does not fit with Perrin Big MAF 3" Intake. Nice piece though; I'll keep it for when it comes time to do F/I.

Thanks for letting us know. Sorry the shroud did not work with that particular intake system.

Let us know how it works out for you when FI is added!

This is looks to be a great product for front mount turbo guys to keep radiant exhaust/turbo heat away from the coolant as well as provide an area for which all airflow will leave the radiator (like they said, pulling from the corners) during fan opperation.

The only downside I see to this setup is that now when moving and air is naturally being forced through the radiator, the covered area now acts as a block since the fan is not running to suck it through the two openings.

I don't know how much it would add to cost, but if you added some flaps in open areas of the shroud it would allow air to bypass the fan opening at speed but flap shut when slow/stationary to focus on fan cooling.

Not much surface area to play with though.

Thanks for the input Naco! Airflow at speed should be very similar to the factory shroud, although the point regarding additional flaps is a great recommendation. We've used these on a few of our recent prototypes and had generally positive results with at-speed flow.

In addition, we've designed a few setups that are more of fan mounts. These are essentially points to secure the fan to the radiator. For these setups, significant airflow is possible during at-speed driving, although it will reduce the efficiency of the fan at idle.

Fan shroud design is give-and-take. Some customers prefer a full shroud, others do not. We can always consider one of these alternate methods as a future design, but we are pretty pleased with our BRZ/FR-S unit.

Thanks again!

Would it be relatively easy to also wires the fans to a manual on/off switch to run them manually to help maintain lower temps for when say in traffic or other long periods of idling?

I've been using the Mishimoto radiator with my supercharger and will be adding the thermostat as well.
