Correct - only 3 pieces have been imported to America! Only 1 left for the next baller!

Well I'd say the OEM armrest is ... well OEM quality. Better looking and more, in my opinion, more practical than this one. From the side this looks .. okay, but from the top it looks silly as it doesn't even take up the whole available area.

I got mine from eBay shipped from UK to Australia for $225 AUS.

But yes, you have to drill into your car. But it's a permanent OEM addition.

That's because it leaves that little slot on the side of the cup holders accessible

Which seems to be on the opposite and inaccessible side for LHD vehicles?

Ya Subaru/Toyato did not reverse it for the LHD cars. I also think the cup holders don't fit correctly if you try to flip it yourself. Haven't see that as a problem though. I usually keep my phone in that center cubby near the push button start anyway

I wish my phone fitted there, it would be ideal. I've got business cards in there. I rest my phone in that cup holder long slot, and yeah you can't turn the whole thing around as they have different sized slots to fit into on each side and don't line up.

I would expect better from Toms, IMO this looks like a diving board. I bought a handmade one when I first got my car from someone on this site (can't remember who). Had to remove the cupholders (useless to me anyway) but it fits perfectly over the well, provides hidden storage and still looks great as well as being very comfortable. And it was 1/5 the cost of Toms.

You can also get this armrest for cheaper:

Aichi Toyota armrest. Perfect height, material matches the rest of the leather in the interior, classier look, and sturdy

The only problem with this armrest and basically every other ones EXCEPT for the OEM Toyota one is that they don't cover the centre console completely like they should.

To me, these armrests just don't look like they belong there. Having an 86 badge on the armrest doesn't automatically qualify it as something that truly belongs in the car.

IMO, every single aftermarket armrest for this car looks like someone's uncle did a DIY project in his garage and stuck it in the car as a "temporary" fix.

Someone needs to make something that looks like it was installed from the factory. Then I'll consider buying one.

Besides that small opening you see for the 12V access, the armrest covers the entire center console. If you're talking about armrests that are similar to the "standard" ones you see on most cars, its tough to do because of the cup holders. It's the same reason why I prefer these fully removable armrests over the hinge styled armrests ala the toyota OEM armrest. If I have a drink in the cupholder, the armrests needs to be put in its upright position, which I think is just awkward. I'd rather just remove the whole thing. Again, its just another alternative. The height of this armrest matches those on the door, keeping your arms at symmetric which I like. Because the toyota one is so low, just didn't feel right when sitting with it.

I feel the same way about the cup holders and position of hinged armrests when open. It's nice to be able to just take out the armrest and have it totally out of the way when you have something to drink. Like @kALMIGHTY said it is a temporary fix, but a necessary one for our type of interior. In terms of looks though I have to say I prefer the TOM'S one more than the Aichi one. I personally didn't like the boxy armrests but to each their own
