You could buy a Corvette LTZR151 or something for the same price of the Cayman, and it would be at least 3 times faster, and you would look like someone who knows their way around a billiards table.

Too bad the Corvette drives like a bipolar serial killer. The Cayman might not get you the same powa, but it's gonna "make sense", if that makes sense.

Also, my quote of Randy Pobst is from his drive of the NEW Cayman S, which is the highest spec as of yet. (Highest spec Cayman S, I mean).

My first car was a Volvo 760 Turbo Intercooler... I never got to try passing people, since the car was always in the shop.

Of course. There are a number of good reasons to buy a Cayman over a Corvette (obviously I think that, since I drive a Cayman S), I'm just saying that it wouldn't hurt the car to have more power. Your original post sounded like you were saying that more power would make the car worse (either the Cayman or the BRZ), and I don't feel like that's the case at all.

(As for that quote, I thought it was from the 2009 Cayman, not the 2014 - is there a review from him on the 2014 yet?)

I understand what some folks mean here about passing punch. My RSX was the worst thing to try and pass in. Your foot had to be to the ground after a downshift or two. In my G coupe it's another story. 1/3 of the throttle makes a significant difference in passing punch. I think some folks don't want to put their feet all the way to the ground just to move. The FR-S/BRZ doesn't need any more horsepower IMO. I would rather the gains be 0hp/35-50 lb ft of torque with no tq dip whatsoever.

My original post was basically saying "Could more power be nice? Yes, but the power it has now is adequate for it's intended purpose", you know?

The quote came from this:

With the always tedious need for more power.

Unless your aiming for specific times (drag racing) or running the salt flats, most people grow out of it.

It's common to run into someone with an S2000 who owned a 900HP Supra or a guy with a bone stock SRT challenger who use to drag race muscles car running 8 or 9 seconds at the strip.

Being a car guy you don't grow out of, but the small niches and such inside car culture you do.

You're right. It's a tedious, addictive need for more power that the vast majority of drivers don't need (nor can really handle at the limit, but hey when do they get to the limit anyway?). I like your examples of people with high power cars doing actual racing. Most people don't do actual racing.

And street "racing" doesn't count.

The chassis even on stock suspension is still balanced with 80 extra whp on the track.
Drive the car stock and with more power and your opinion will change quickly.

Didn't you say if you did it all over again you'd leave it N/A?

That being said I sure as hell would prefer more power, than less power. Of course power is relative, and probably over emphasized, but I live in 'MERICA I don't need no logic in my spending decisions damnit.

This car is fast to me. I came from a 2000 CRV.

Also I know two people in different states who have been pulled over and warned for breaking the speed limit while passing. Apparently you are supposed to cruise along side by side for a while anyway.

I came from a Prius and I am not sure what everybody is talking about with lack of power. The fun thing with passing in the Prius is that you can look at the the other driver and be like "Yeah, you just got passed by a Prius."

Honestly, I have much more fun flying through a roundabout and passing people at nearly double the speed that they feel comfortable with than passing people in a straight line.

I like catching up with people on clover leaf ramps when they are posted for 20mph or so. Sometimes you can catch them looking in their mirror with an expression like, "where did that guy come from?"
