Well.. I told the officer that I was pulled over few weeks ago and I've already paid the fine. I thought he was going to give me another same bs processing fee fine again, but instead... he just told me why it's important to have legal tint even I'm from out of state. I guess I agree with his point that they he can't see what I'm doing in the car (Smoking/drinking/no seat belt, etc). Also he mentioned as long as I'm in the legal tint with MD (35%), they won't bother with me. With his meter checked again, my tint came out to 16%... He was a pretty young guy and finalized the conversation with my car. It was funny how some of police officer has interest in the car. He actually complimented on my car saying how sweet looking it is, rwd, light, etc. He let me go without even checking my license/registration.

I guess I have to get my tint redone before I visit my sister again.
Wow that's crazy. I had been driving my previous car (registered in Colorado with CO tags) with 20% tint (so I assume would register around 16% as well) in VA all the time (I'm an Annandale frequenter), and had never been bothered. Now that I have MD plates on my BRZ, I wonder if I'll get pulled over now for having 35% tint? Guess we'll find out.

He said they won't bother with 35%, but I can't be sure on that because stock window color (~70%) + 35% tint will give less % on their expected reading. I passed several MD state police cars, but they never cared... love my state.

My father was pulled over in DE few months ago and I believe he received 2-3 points with ticket fine. Few weeks later, he received letter saying if he doesn't pay by due date, his license and permission to drive in DE will be suspended. He doesn't have time to drive to DE and deal with court, so he just paid the fine online (DE state police website). I guess if you receive point from out of state, it only stays in that area. Not sure how it will affect your insurance though. Waiting for some experienced/experts to reply.

I like the living environment of VA, but I hate VA too.

Hire a local traffic lawyer to represent you in court. With the $ you'll probably shell out for a 90mph ticket it would probably be worth it.

yeah i think in VA reckless you have to show up to court. hire a lawyer, expect it to be expensive, and prepare for points. some states are bad at sending notifications to your home state of infractions, but from what i understand VA/MD work well together.

Should I just pay this $62 and be done with it? Any trace that will follow?

This was my first time in VA, so I'm not sure what's the right way to proceed.
If there was no reason listed for the ticket, I'd have gone to court. How can you be issued a ticket for no violation being listed on the ticket?? You may have gotten off on a technicality.

Don't want to bother with it anymore. I'm just going to replace the window tints to 35%. I go to VA once in a while since my sister lives there. Even if I go to court and appeal not guilty on the 20% tint, another state trooper will pull me over in the future. Whatever, just going to stay out of their sight.

You would have this issue in MD becuase you are illegal as well so yea best to go 35%. I learned that a long time ago and with such small interiors of our cars its always better to go as legal as possible (35% is still 31%)

haha Yeah, but the funny thing that MD cops never cared about my tint. Passed numerous state troopers, no ticket. Drove around in Baltimore, obviously... Just getting the side windows redone, so it shouldn't cost much.

yeah, you're definitely going to have to go to court for that one, no way to prepay.

Get a lawyer. Depending on the county, this could hurt.
