Must have me confused with my college roommate this one summer semester several years ago. Wrecked his brand new WRX at age 16 and was subsequently given a BMW 330Ci.I was mainly commenting for the other guy. E85 is NOT plentiful in Maryland, bro. The E85 pumps are more or less exclusively up and down the I-270 corridor...which is basically just Montgomery County. A single county of one state. Looks like a few pumps scattered around the rest of the state, with a handful in Baltimore. That's not really good availability for everyone who doesn't live in MoCo and Baltimore. I have no problem with the 2 minute drive to the E85 pump down the street from my house. Per gallon it's usually about 70 cents cheaper; the drop in mileage negates that price difference. |

Edit: On second thought, that police lot might not be for police only after all, I just see there lots of cop cars all the time. |

I feel you too. when you look at a map md looks small. when you look up e85 it looks like theres a chance. Closest to me is 44 miles south or 40 miles north. Not worth the hike.

yeah, i suppose the cars are dynoing about 10whp higher here to start too. mods are just full exhaust and intake. alot of people dont run any cats over here and just swap em in for inspection time. Ive seen over 220whp but it had an over sized throttle body and was for time attack, so the tune probably wasn't "safe" so to speak. i didn't realize the pump gas was that much better over here.

E85 would be "safer" if it is available. So far as i am aware no one has produced a Meth injection setup for the twins that will switch maps to a pump gas only safe map in the event of a meth system failure which is ultimately what you want if safety is a concern. Ecutek may be able to do it if you steal an input on the ecu and re purpose it. Piggy backs are usually very easy to switch maps using a ground switch on the meth failsafe. Standalones as well normally are easy enough to setup map switching. I ran an aquamist HFS-5 with AEM EMS, and also with stock ecu and a piggy back. I tuned quite a few meth cars that did not have adequate failsafes and several of them lost motors when their pumps gave out from running 100% meth on pumps that were not rated for it (seal failure). From what i read in the thread they posted, their kit is based on the AEM meth kit and probably uses a hobs switch (boost activated) to activate the spray. For NA you would probably want to trigger off the maf signal OR rpm and tps combo etc.. not sure what provisions they have for alternate triggers, but they did mention it was possible.

Whatever you decide to go with I would definitely get headers to go with it. Losing the torque dip is a must. |

Take a look at this example---- I did some internet checking and I am seeing at best 23% price difference e85 to 93. So, it seems I will lose money with the tune? E85 tune cost how much ?
"For example, the flex-fuel 2010 Chevrolet Impala equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine gets an EPA-estimated 18/29 mpg (city/highway) on gasoline and 14/21 mpg when burning E85. The acceleration is pretty much the same, but the car's range is shortened. In other words, you'll be filling the tank more often when using E85. Do the math and you'll discover that E85 must be priced roughly 28 percent less than gas just to break even. For example, if gasoline is $3 per gallon, E85 would have to be priced below $2.16 per gallon. There are regions in the Corn Belt where E85 reaches this threshold, making it cost effective." My other concern is going out of town, I do not want to run around out of my way 20 minutes and more looking for gas. What happens if you have the tune and cant find it? can you use what gas ?

For safety, a lot of people are waiting for a flex-fuel tune before diving into engine mods. As for the Impala, it's not a high-compression engine, sitting at 9.8:1. It doesn't pull timing on crap fuel like the twins have to because of their compression. I can't wait till we see valves, springs, and cams. Heck, we'll probably see a stroke kit someday.
