My salesman told me that they had to order it separately and would be installed when it arrived. I said no problem, just let me know when to drop the car off.

The spoiler arrived, and I went to have it installed. I triple checked with my salesman and was assured that the correct spoiler was going to be installed. I was almost about to leave with a loaner vehicle when I was told they had the spoiler, but not the template to install it. I was late to work, but was told my gas tank would be topped off to full when I returned to have it installed.

The template arrived, and I dropped my car off again under the assumption that the correct spoiler was being installed. I returned later that day to find out the OEM Scion spoiler had been installed. The OEM spoiler required them to drill holes through my trunk lid. Their tech did not clean up the metal shavings, and my gas tank was also not filled up as promised. I was not impressed.

I have spoke to the service manager, sales manager, and my salesman. Every one of them told me my only option is to swap trunk lids with another car they have on their lot. I have told every single one of them I am not swapping parts with another vehicle (not to mention I removed the Scion badges for the Toyota ones). I find it ridiculous that they expect me to be happy with swapping trunks on a vehicle less than a few weeks old due to their negligence.

I'm not sure what my options are here. What would you guys do?
I find it ridiculous that your upset with these guys and need to ask a forum for your options on what to do.

if your pissed why not decide in your mind what will make you happy and negotiate with the dealer on that.

sounds like they gave you a option or 2 and your being difficult to deal with.

your car is not a ferrari, if they swap the trunks, change out your badges, paint matches and refund you on the wing. move on.
dont deal with that dealership in the future.

so you would buy a rusty POS if the VINs match but you wouldnt buy a beautiful rebuilt car by a professional

cool you're logical

There is. Just type the sarcastic sentence in yellow, like so.

Damn, I'm so happy that I get to wait 3 months for my car.

Anyone who knows enough to look at the VIN on the trunk lid will also know enough to determine that the car hasn't been rear-ended by thoroughly checking it out. Suspected frame damage based on the trunk lid is a stretch in my opinion. If there were multiple parts, that's a different story.

It doesn't matter that the car isn't a Ferrari. The dealership clearly provided a product that isn't what the customer has asked and paid for, the customer should be reasonably expected to be able to claim for repairs and any consequential loss associated with the dealership's error.

If the VIN is really on the trunk I would fight for additional money to compensate for loss of resale value in addition to making good on the 5AD spoiler if you go ahead with the trunk swap, or replace the spoiler on your current trunk and compensate you for loss of value associated with drilling and patching up the holes.

I don't know the finer details of consumer laws in America but it is not unreasonable to expect compensation for loss of value.

It's lose lose situation.

So either keep the spoiler and ask for compensation for the mix up or swap lids and ask for documentation detailing the reason for the swap as someone suggested.

Swap the trunks or get a refund. Either one sounds reasonable. Sucks, but it's not the end of the world.

Here you go....and yes its (sorta) readable without opening the trunk. It's upside down so that its rightside up when the trunk is open.

I stopped reading right there.

The HELL it is even 1/10 of 1% the OP's fault. The dealer knew what he wanted, the dealer screwed up.

The plate the badge is on can be swapped as well if you decide on just swapping trunks.

That being said, ALWAYS check what parts you are getting. Especially on body part accessories. Sorry you had to learn that the hard way. Good luck getting everything squared away with the dealer.
