The SpecV is a supercar with a comanding price tag.

I hope they do it and toyota did promise there will be a stripped down version or trim or whatever that is gonna make us happy they went that far to make it light

Please dont call it the 2000GT that car is very special and if you wanna bring that name back it better actually make sense than on your AE86 spiritual successor
Toyota used XX00GT as a trim line for high performance cars before IE the Toyota Celica 1600GT and the Toyota Celica 2000GT. And for the examples I was trying to get across that this hypothetical car would not be the base model, it would be a high end trim line. IE The FT86 is to a Nissan GT-R as my car is to a SpecV. I'm not so retarded as to think the FT86 would compete with the SpecV

I see 2 problems with this special editions and sup'ed up model.
1) the goal of this car as explicated by the project chief of design was that this car should be an inexpensive sports car.
2) scion sells monospec cars. So I'm not sure about these as options.

Nissan GT-R SpecV

I'm not saying the base model should have Bilsteins, Brembos, No sound deadening, ect. But the Top of the line with all of the options-Why not? It could be called the Toyota FT-86 2000GT.
all those cars are pretty mass market and not sports cars. its one thing to get an econobox, stick a couple seats in, throw in a hot cam and maybe some springs. its another to make a small production sports car and then make it something else. what i would imagine is something like the genesis r spec or a wrx tr

Hope for the best, but expect the worst. That's my outlook on the car, so I can avoid disappointment no matter what happens.

If the car actually weighs 2555lb, I really don't care how much power it has. The original 86 had 115 hp in North American guise and it was still fun to drive.

Amen, original Miata (NA) has 115hp, 0 to 60 in 9.1 seconds and it's still more fun to drive than anything else I've tried. (Other than an FD RX7). 2100 pounds!

I want more than 'fun to drive' out of this car. while that is the most important aspect, if this thing can't get out of its own way it's going to fail as a sports car.

Those decade old examples won't hold up in 2012, the industry and its expectations have changed drastically.

The game may be different, but the players are the same

I've always had slow cars, I don't want another one. This car needs to be quick for me to be interested.

Great handling isn't the definition of fun to drive IMHO. It's a combination of all aspects of a sporting vehicle like acceleration, steering, handling, and braking. But acceleration seems to be opinionated amongst enthusiast. It seems like some people think sporty is 0-60 9.2 seconds. Knock off more than 3. something seconds off of that and that's what I call sporty acceleration.

Exactly. The cars I've been looking at have 0-60 times between 4.8-6.1sec, with an average right around 5.3sec. 1/4 mile times between 13.3-14.5 with the average being 13.8sec. I want something around those ranges and I expect something on the higher side of those ranges out of this car. If this car has 0-60 in the 7s and 1/4 in the 15s, I'm not going to be impressed.

If it weighs under 2600lbs with 200hp it will be plenty quick for me.

Using a quick calculator with-

2700lb
200hp

0-60 - 5.88
1/4 mile - 14.6

That's good enough for me
