To me, the spring removal didn't really make the engagement point more defined, it made the pedal feel more linear. With the spring in, the clutch felt lighter on the lower half of the travel as the spring pivots and pushes down. With it out, the travel feels the same weight through the entire range, making it much easier to modulate.

The clutch in my GenCoupe was pretty terrible too. Had something to do with the DMF. I stalled that car out quite a few times.... all the while letting my passengers know that I DO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE STICK, YES, THANK YOU. And it lurched a lot when shifting in lower gears.

The whole setup just sucked. Not enough to hate the car though. My FRS is WORLDS better

My ex had an early Gen Coupe (2010 2.0T) and I HATED the clutch and shifter in that thing. It was so vague and rubbery, and the clutch was very light for a 200+hp sports car.

Out of curiosity, when I was about to buy my BRZ, I test-drove a 2013 Gen Coupe 2.0T with the newer more powerful engine, in the hopes that they had improved the shifter/clutch. Nope; shifting still felt like playing with rubber bands, and the clutch pedal was still light as a feather.

That being said, I worked at a Hyundai dealer for most of 2016, and it felt like there was a big difference on the newer 3.8L models. Clutch felt heavier than before, and shifter felt more direct. But I still wouldn't buy one.

That's generally been my impression as well. I wasn't sure if I was imagining things or not but now that someone else mentioned it, I don't feel as nuts as I did before.

Removed spring, adjusted clutch pedal, and updated slave cylinder many thousands of miles ago. Still holding up strong 87k on original TOB.
