Well, it is KINDA a P1800 ES. But then I accidentally went and grafted a Miata underneath it. (there was a small hole in the Volvo floor and using the Miata floor as a repair panel seemed like a logical solution.)

And then I went and converted it to a Ford 302.

Build thread here if you are into this kind of thing

That's cool! What's the weight difference between the stock motor and the 302? That car was always a bit nose heavy, is it going to be better or worse?

The Miata wheelbase was stretched 7" and the engine will be fully behind the front axle.

So, even though the car is going to gain a couple of hundred pounds along with the drive-train, it will be distributed along the wheelbase.

I am hoping that it drives much like a V8 Miata with a roof.

59 years young. Here are some of the cool cars I've owned along the way.

70 Opel GT
72 Celica GT
73 RX3
83 RX7
85 MR2
90 CRX Si
02 GTI

I always wanted a Datsun 240Z but never owned one. That's why I got the FR-S. To make up for the 240Z. And I've been thoroughly enjoying the FR-S. I enjoy it so much I put 74,000 miles on it already. But it doesn't really matter. I plan to be buried in this car!

Did the 240Z thing. Dad bought one the first year they came out. We lived in PR and it got drove all over North America and Europe as the family moved around. You will be happy to know that the FRS is definitely what Nissan should have made as a modern incarnation of that car.

Wow, your Dad was very generous. My first car was a hand-me-down from my brother, which was a hand-me-down from my Father. It was a 1965 Toyota Corona. It had to be one of the very first Toyotas in America. It was considered to be a Japanese piece of crap at the time. Everywhere we went in it people would point and stare.(Kinda like when I first got the FR-S).
I used to beat the holy crap out of that car. It had an automatic transmission
(the only auto I have ever owned) so to do a burnout you had to put it in neutral, floor the gas and jam it into low. Or you could drive in reverse and slam it into low and floor it. I used to take that car over jumps, slide it around on the mud flats and drive it on the beach including in the water.
I was a surf bum at the time so I didn't have money for things like oil. So from time to time the engine would seize up from lack of oil. But I would let it cool off, fill it up with oil (used) and it would be good as new. The last time it seized was at the busiest intersection in town. It never recovered.

It may have been a piece of crap but boy that was a great car.

Everybody's first car was a great car no matter how bad it really was!

No not really! I drove what I deemed a marshmallow. It was mazda 626 that was held together with duct tape. It had 180k miles when I bought it. It was mine and got me a to b but not without a lot of creative engineering.
