MT is awesome but definitely a commitment. Later down the line I'm sure you'll be glad you got this baby in MT

There are quite a few people that bought AT and now want MT. Much more than the other way around. You are in a good position to make a trade with someone....

When I drive auto's for an extended duration (2hrs+), my awareness level drops dramatically and fatigue starts kicking me in the balls. Whereas having learnt to drive manual it's never been the case - one time I drove nearly non stop (1 pee break) for 6 hours or more to Great Ocean Rd and back and when I got out of the car, I felt as fresh as when we headed off.

Start-stop traffic on a hill is still PITA and left knee twinges sometimes from all the work required from it but as we all know - "no pain, no gain".
There is no quasi BS with driving a stick. you just drive it, anybody can do it.
Your long trip analogy is BS. Since you would be primarily in same gear for extended periods of time, not changing gears so therefore just like at and you become lack of awareness. don't you agree ?

Sure anybody can drive MT and I haven't said otherwise. But for myself, coming from extended driving in AT, MT is a much more involved process. Like EK_Golfer mentioned in his post above, MT requires commitment and when you do commit, it rewards you with satisfaction and a sense of achievement.

As for the long trip anecdote, I shifted to 4th quite a few times for some aggressive passing on the highway. Sometimes I'd put it into 5th for steeper inclines. If I was driving AT, I'd just modulate the throttle *yawn*. Besides, Great Ocean Rd is very twisty - gave me plenty of time to practice heel-toe and experiment with traction loss

Haha I know the feeling. AT is fun with comfort when you want it.

This car should have never been sold in AT......all small sports and sporty cars should be manual. it's a waste to buy it in Auto.
One of the best things about the 3rd gen WRX was that it wasn't offered in auto.

as for the guys claiming mpg as the excuse i got 36mpg on the way to work and back. 130 miles of 60/70 and some city. (pretty straight and boring though)

The only thing worse for driving fun than an auto is a CVT.

For this car, at this time, I prefer to have the versatility of the AT.
I agree, I drive a manual and always will, but it SUCKS in the DC traffic.

i never understand why people say they shouldn't make an AT on a sports car like this. I just don't understand, who cares if they have it, don't buy it lol what changes when it's only available in MT? Oh yeah, just one less choice lol nothing more

if you don't want a Bic Mac with a combo then don't take the combo. Simple analogy, you're not paying for it, doesn't hurt you that it's there lol

Agreed. If you think of it from a manufacturing perspective, it's actually very smart to offer both. If people can't or don't want to drive MT it does not inhibit sales and vice versa. I like it as long as the AT is performance oriented like this one and doesn't ruin the car. That is clearly the case here, this AT is quite brilliant if you give it a chance and drive it. So from Toyota/Subaru perspective, it just makes sense, they are selling like hotcakes and there is no limitation for market segments based on transmission options.

EXACTLY!!! MT drivers who make comments like that, have issues with people driving ATs, that or they are jealous of people who can have it easy in AT? LOL idk just making random guesses at this poit, like i said, i never understand their thought process. I love both to be honest, there are pros and cons to be discussed and each has their own greatness
