I understand your guys association with tureno and the old names, but those that know that name are the same ones who are likely to buy the car regardless of name. Toyota needs a new name to attract a new crowd of buyers.
I myself was originally hoping it would be the next celica, but honestly opinions stated before are probably right. People would automatically assume it's a slow Eco box and sales wouldn't be as high. And we need sales to be high if we want Toyota to make sports cars in the future. I think FR-S(MR-S naming convention) or FT-86 would be the best names. Maybe even GT-86. What would be awesome is if they released this car as the celica then released the ft-hs as the Supra.

The Scion will probably be something like FT-S, but I think calling it the "piranha" would be catchy.

How about JUST 86, as in Eighty-Six (dropping the FT or the AE). And Toyota has already trademarked the "86" name. It will be like the old Nissan Skyline GT-Rs compared to the new (simply) GT-R.

I bet they could call this the Celica and reintroduce it as a top of the line Scion -- sort of an "old skool meets new skool" ad campaign. I could see them doing that.
Unfortuantely the Corolla is now better recognized as a subcompact Camry, so forget that name

Ft-86 Makes sense and suits the current trend, i.e Skyline --> GTR.
But tbh (Even tho i love the ST185 and ST205's) when i buy an 86 and someone asks me what it is.. i think it would loose its shine saying "oh its the new celica"

If Trueno= thunder and Levin= lightning
so Raiden is cool name for this Japanese car, Becuase rai=thunder and den=lightning. Why always use Latin derive word? |
