Actually I wasn't thinking of the float type, I was thinking more of the glass sight tube type that shows fuel in it as the indicator. I flew a couple of kit planes that had those type gauges in them.

I know. That's why I'm contrasting sight gauge with personal experience of even the simplest mechanism. See fuel - got fuel.
