Stock trans can only handle around 340-350 torque and that's pushing it depends on how bad you beat it. Also 4th gear is know to be the weakest in these cars.

didn't break any gears with the avo setup but that trans had horrible synchro issues, especially at higher rpm's

Did you mess up synchro at all on avo kit?

Is this transmission honestly that fragile? I never had this issue with or worry with my 04 STI . This is becoming a big concern now with the power levels in trying to hit. I'm just a bit confused because 3 tuning companies I spoke with personally said the transmission would be fine at the power I'm trying to attain. One of those companies was FBM to name one. Are they hoping I yardsale my transmission to get more money out of me? This is getting serious now because there aren't many if any options or there for the transmission in this car to hold the power

It totally depends on you the engine has no problem putting out w.e hp numbers you want but the torque is going to be your downfall. What they will mostly do is try to keep you in the safe area for torque. Like me I just got tuned putting out 350whp on 91 and 417whp on E85 but with both maps they kept me at 340lb of torque so there is little ways to stay safe. It all comes down to how your drive also.

Problem is location. I'm many many states away from their shop. I'm in ny, over 1500 miles from them

Plus I was hoping to do a bunch of work myself to better learn things. I've worked on all my previous cars. Just nothing this extensive

No, because they don't have a solution ready to sell you. (except FB but that's so expensive they know they can't just sell people that on a regular basis)

And I have no idea what people are b*tching about on the synchros. If your clutch is set up correctly, and you shift correctly, power should not affect synchro wear. Period.

I have never had any synchro issues whatsoever. I bought it in Alaska, Drove on many mornings at -20f or colder. No issues. 90+ degree days in NY, no issues. 270 whp on 93 & 7psi, no issues.
