I did for the first two days. Then I learned how to get in and out more gracefully. I'm 45, 6', 290 lbs and have almost no cartilage left in my knees, so I have no great advantage there.
To get in, I sit down and swing both legs in. To get out, I swing both legs out and stand up, with my hand on the seat bolster for leverage. No problem. Quote:

I started getting a mild pain in my left knee the first months I had the car. I was putting all the force in that leg to push myself out without looking dumb.
After learning that the door sill padded area is meant to use your hand to help I have no problems. One leg out and push myself up with my arm from the sill to exit gracefully. |

Getting in, I drop the rear in first then pull the feet in. If I can't get the door all the way open, the right foot goes in, then I shuttle step and sit down, pulling the left in. I never use my hands getting in. Getting out, left foot goes out, hand goes to the back of the door sill where Toyota/Subaru were gracious enough to put a soft pad, and just sort of roll out to a stand. I tell MomHawk this is all part of my exercise routine! Hey @ichitaka05 maybe you should add a "getting in and out of the car" speed contest to the FT86 gathering!

Made me laugh. For the last 40 years, my fleet hs always included MG Midgets, MGBs and Miata. The act of "falling into" and "folding out" is second nature even at 56 years old.
That said, I have never had a woman in the car that did not make a comment about getting out and how they did not like that bit. I doubt that women make up a significant part of the market for this car. |

I hear you man...
You do have to master the following Jedi moves... 1) Drop left hand down - palm flat onto the door sill... about directly below where your left shoulder is.... you'll be putting a bit of your overall body weight as you.. 2) Swing your left foot up-and-out of the cabin... deftly MISSING the lower portion of the door panel so you don't scuff it up.... some dexterity of the foot such that you can do some deft toe-point to miss the soft plastic is a must... 3) Plant your left foot on the ground... as you put weight on your left hand (on door sill) and push up/out of the cabin... while 4) Making sure you do a quick head-move to avoid knocking your noggin on the top of the doorway... 5) As you are moving up and out, you'll need to do a quick left-foot re-plant as your center of gravity shifts "hard left" as you complete the "FT 86 Cabin Exit Move." May the force be with you! Passengers... exiting from right side... reverse a bit... using your right hand (palm), etc, etc., etc....

Sorry. Can't believe a tutorial made by somebody that loves red paint that much.

I swing my left foot out, twist my butt a little, put my right foot flat on the tranny hump, grab the wheel and rotate out while pushing with the right foot. Totally smooth and graceful like
me = (quite a bit) closer to 50 than 45 and 5'6" with a spare tire about the size of what a 7 month pregnant chick would be carrying. |
