We don't have the best roads here in WI, so if you are speeding in the FR-S on half the roads here, your eyeballs are in danger of falling out of your face or your tailbone piercing your seats. |

thats what i love about this car the perception of speed is a lot more fun than speed itself. a first gen miata is the most fun car ive ever driven because its so slow but feels like its going fast because you can and have to wrap it through the gears to get anywhere. same thing with motorcycles a 250 is so much more fun because it has usable power you can redline it in first second and then third before you are going so fast you lose track of everything around you.

I completely agree. Compared to my SS, I feel every single mph in the FRS. I love it though! It's exactly what you said... I am so much more connected with the road. (and the SS is a pretty damn good handling beast even at nearly 2 tons.) Quote:
Also, the twins are also pretty quick to get up there (above the limit), so just layin' into it a little might surprise you when you look back down at the spedo. |

Whenever I think I'm driving 80mph with this car, I look down and see that it's only 60mph. The feedback on this car is so tremendous with the road and wind noise whenever I go above 60. It feels fast when it's not. BMWs on the other hand.. I always get surprised how fast I'm actually going when I look down at the tach, reading 80 when I thought I was going 60..

It is odd sometimes this car. In the tight twisties in 2nd gear you feel like you are flying along, then discover you have been caught up by an SUV.
Yet, on an open highway you are perfectly relaxed cruising along and you look down to see 3 figures stare back at you and go, "Ooops."

My Evo feels like you're crawling unless you're going well above any speed limit. I went 190mph in one of HKS' GTRs at Fuji Speedway and it didn't feel like we were going half that speed. Of course the track is smooth, but the car is so confident and stable it didn't feel like it was anywhere close to the "edge." This past week I've been driving a new 5.0L Mustang 6 spd. and it's quick, but because the chassis is less stable than what I'm used to, suspension is softer, overall heavier with a higher cg - the car doesn't exude the same confidence at speed. When I'm going fast, it feels fast and keeps me on my toes. |

I feel like my perception of speed always comes back to whether or not I feel in control of the car. It does make me feel like i'm always driving slow because at any minute I feel like I could take a sharp turn (and often do
) or swerve to avoid something and still have complete control. After 2 weeks of owning the car this is still the most enjoyable car driving experience i've had, fast or slow. |

My Mustang is the one that doesn't like to maintain a constant speed, it likes to try and get away and trick me into having fun. The FR-S is easier to maintain speeds in IMO because of its lower power rating.

I would say its the complete opposite OP....My car "feels fast" when im actually going slow. The low profile, the rumbling exhaust notes and the heavy steering wheel makes normal driving feel fast when in reality im normally doing maybe 5 mph over the speed limit
