I've known a few people in my life that have had their lives totally changed because of a charge that wasn't warranted. For example, just imagine if the OP had been arrested by the officer. He was walking through a nice neighborhood late at night, "fit the description" of a suspect who had been involved in an assualt, had alcohol in his system and is a minority. What do you think the DA would have done? My money is they would have charged him. At that point, he'd have three options. Plead innocent and go to court, take a plea or plead guilty (techincally he could also plead "nolo contendre" but usually that's for people who have worked out a plea bargain). No matter what option he chose above. all would involve him having to attain a criminal defense lawyer (read lots of money if you want a good one) and his life would be changed forever. At the end of the day, he has to prove his "innocence" or get a conviction for something he didn't do.

And that is why I want a dash cam built into my skull. Just for protection. Too bad that stuff would hurt and I'm not a man enough to do it.

Complying with police doesn't mean you're a doormat, nor does it mean you have to be a **** like I've stated already. It's fine to stay within your rights. What I was referring to is people who get all offended for the fact that an officer would even stop them. Then they start shouting and throwing a temper tantrum because they're "innocent". Unless you're legitimately being harassed, there's no need for it. Like you said anything can and will be used against you so go ahead and be a jackass; or you can just comply for a moment and be on with your life.

If it's 1773 you'd probably just pay for the tea tax and go on with your life.

We tried invading the Great White North; once. That didn't work out so well. I think the Brits were still pissed about the tea tax issue.

I'm a middle aged, conservative, clean cut, upper middle class white male. If a cop pulled up on me while walking at night and told me to ID I'd tell them to go to hell. I'm not IDing. Never ID unless you've been told you've broken the law. Record all encounters. Way too many rouge officers out there who think they can do as they please.
