Too bad the Fisker Karma didn't hang on. Way cooler looking than the Model S plus it has a 2L turbo generator.

No I wouldn't, the charge times are a killer for me.

And having to charge the car every night. If my gf forgets to get gas on the way home I'm only out an extra 10 mins the next morning. If she forgets to plug in the car I guess i'm staying home.

Just a matter of time before nearly all cars are electric. A battery and some motors, all at almost ground level is going to be hard to beat. And I hate electric cars

Depends on how long your commute is. In my commute, I would only have to charge the car (on average) ever other day, or every 3 days. Also, as all-electrics become more prevalent, you will start to see the infrastructure for "fast chargers" (like Tesla's "Supercharger" stations) become more prevalent.

That said, I still believe what I did in my earlier post to this thread--once fuel cell vehicles take off, all-electric vehicles will become a moot point.

Yes. I want a Tesla-powered FD RX7-successor. Bring it on.

At the moment I would absolutely buy the tesla model s over just about any sedan in its price range. For 99% of people who drive back and forth into the city to work, this car just makes sense imo

Of course if I was in the market for a C63 or ISF, the model s could never fill that spot, but if I was looking at a cars like the a6, e class, 5 series or even the higher end smaller classes I logically couldnt see why you wouldnt get a tesla!

Electric to me makes sense in some situations. Like motorcycles. Here's what it looks like if you take the 86's 200HP and put it on a single power electric bike..

If all else was equal, would you buy an electric?

All things being equal, no I probably wouldn't buy an electric car. To me they're soulless. I enjoy the sound of a well tuned engine and love rowing my own gears. A throttle blip while downshifting is music to my ears.

Seeing as that electric cars have neither engines or gearboxes I have no interest in owning or driving one. It's not all just about speed - it's hoe you get there.

Also I wouldn't be so sure that "EVs are inevitable". EVs have been around just as long as gasoline powered cars, if not longer. If anything its going to replace gasoline powered vehicles I think it'll be fuel cells and LNG powered vehicles.

Tesla needs to make smaller, lighter cars. I can't take them seriously when they have to make these big ass expensive BMW-competitor luxury boats. For something that's supposedly environmentally friendly & progressive, it's super excessive & egocentric. It's more of a fashion statement... like the Apple watch (or Apple anything, really) in car form. They could easily make a light, basic, stripped down car like the FR-S but with electric power and accomplish two things: 1. Electric car affordability for regular people. 2. A more fun electric car to drive.

It's predictable business strategy. You have to first produce high margin products to recoup developmental costs and of course those products will be aimed at the demographic that can afford them or in other words, they will be priced such that only that demo can afford them. Cars for "regular people" are by nature low margin and without the ability to cheaply scale up you simply cannot provide for that demo.

Apple isn't a fair comparison. They've essentially been making the same thing for a decade with only slight different variations and they've already mastered "scaling up". The reason their products are overpriced is a different marketing strategy than why Teslas are expensive. One is expensive because they have to be at this stage, the other is expensive because they can. It should be obvious which is which.
