I traded a 2013 WRX for a 2014 FR-S. I'm 50/50 when it comes to missing the boost. Both are good, fun cars. However, with both I was/am still wanting more...

Best thing is to just test drive it. You'll instantly know which route to go. Oil cooler and radiator seems to be holding up well as far as cooling goes. There's plenty of other cooling options you can do for the added peace of mind. Best of luck with decision!

Nope I've just read more reviews of turbo kits you can shake a stick at and been on this forum long enough to exasperate the knowledge imparted on my research and reading on what FI will consist of on this motor.

But me being only 20, insurance companies look if I'm driving a WRX (known for getting into trouble with cops and wrecks and the like) or a smaller 2 door coupe with less power. Like a bigger hard top miata.

OP, unless you feel comfortable dealing with the hassle of FI on a motor not designed for boost I would just go with a boosted car from the factory.

The pros for the BRZ for me are the seating position and overall sports car feel. The (stock) WRX was faster, no question, but the BRZ feels fast all the time whereas the WRX only felt fast when I was driving fast. Only you can decide which is worth more to you.
Yeah don't get me started with my insurance for my twin... :/ yeah also I gotta keep in mind I live in a terrible place for tuner.. can't bolt on a turbo and just call it a day

Another thing, there was a mighty car mod video about painting your intercooler black which lead to lower temps at a standstill.
Reading the OP's posts on this site, it is my opinion that a new WRX/STI would be a much better option for him. I am not sure he is prepared yet for the responsibility of a forced induction BRZ/FR-S.

No! I specifically went from an STI to FR-S to get away from AWD.

- Backseats are of minimal concern to me. If I really need to fit people, I've got another car for that.

- Warranty is important, agreed.

- Integrated oil cooler will need to be upgraded anyway for more serious track work.

But based on this post you made, I definitely think a WRX or STI would be a better fit for you. My vote is trade-in.

Indeed it seems he has already made his mind up.

Going to have to agree with Mr Tut. However, the reward of having a boost 86 is so much greater. Especially since I stomp on current gen STI's at 6psi ;-)

OP, I test drove a 2015 WRX and STI. I would go with the WRX hands down. If you want a sports car, get the 86. If you want an all-around car with some more punch, the WRX. If you want a properly boosted 86, get ready to pay more than an STI.

Head the mans advice. Also you are going to see a wealth of tuning option with the WRX that will push it past STI level performance. I will say this. You can always add more power down the line, but a solid chassis not so much.
