My main worry about this car was the E36 M3. It's got great suspension, brakes, 3200 lbs, with a bit of effort can be under 3, 5 and a half 0-60, was regarded as the best handling car of its time (compared to the likes of the NSX, F355, C5 etc) and very nice ones can be found easily for under 10k.

But the trumping factors are those dictated by my wife, whom this car is for. She wants a new/dependable, comfortable daily driver that she can take to the track with me and not be intimidated by all of its performance pretensions (how fast it's supposed to go 0-whatever, how hard it can corner and how fast it laps the nurburgring). She loves how this car looks, it checks off all of her requirements, including butt warmers (bye Scion) so while in my opinion, there are far better performance buys out there, namely the E36 M3 for 1/3 the money, it turned out to be beside the point.

affordable? ehh but compared to ~$35k for evo and sti. i think $30k for rx8. and s2000 isn't made anymore

just my thought
Not sure why you're comparing the 86 to an Evo or STI, both of which outclass the 86 (especially the Evo), and you can more easily see where the money went in said cars. If one were to only have one car based on performance and fun, the Evo/STI at their price is a better value.

MT did it with a 3 foot roll and a 5000 rpm clutch drop. I dont give a damn about 0-60 times if i have to drop the clutch at 4000+ rpms. Im more concerned with real world acceleration; how the low end torque feels, passing in high gears, and general real life acceleration. The numbers mean diddly to me. The test drive will determine a lot for me.

and everyone remember its on pruis tires!!!!

the BASE mustang actually comes on 215 wide tires, pony packages(which most get) comes with 235 wide tires

the 3.7L does 6.2 sec to 60 on the shitty 215 tires, and are the only tires you can actually get 30mpgs, and thats if you dont touch the throttle ever on the highway...

3.7L (215 tires ).88 g's
3.7L (on 235 tires) .90 g's
5.0L 9.1 g's
305 BOSS .93 g's (that thing has some serious rubber on it!!!)

Clutch drops are how you launch a RWD car in the real world. I'm really really surprised that there appears to be a general misconception on here about what real world 0-60 entails. And by no means is a 4 or 5k drop on a RWD car all that abnormal. Its par for the course. You light them up and then get it to stick off line. This isnt an AWD car, clutch drops are not nearly as hard on the driveline on a RWD as they are on AWD.

You mis understand me. My point was im not going to do a 4k clutch drop coming out of a red light or merging onto the highway. As my daily driver car, I just want to be able to feel the acceleration in real world situations.

I couldn't take this review serious because they kept talking comparing to beer later to find it was a mag from Germany.

When the turbo WRX first came out in the states, it took a good amount of time for people to shift their thinking from the 5k drops - witness all the controversy of "glass" transmissions back then. Now everybody has to shift their thinking back to the good ol' days of smokey burnouts from the stoplight. It's been a while since there was an affordable RWD sports coupe from Japan (besides the mx5/miata).

Low rolling resistance isn't necessarily bad for performance, there are "high performance" LRR tires (admittedly, there are no LRR max/ultra high performance that I've seen), but these tires are probably the least grippy summer only tires you can get.

I'm hoping "easy to slide" is not the only reason they put these on, hopefully when more reviews come out they'll get praise for being quiet or something. They're quite expensive tires afterall, and low grip tires are easy to come by.

look guys,
i appreciate defending the BRZ... and NO i am not a drag racer. but the truth of the matter is, i have owned 2 WRXs and 1 STI. i was expecting a quicker car from Subaru. none of us have driven the car yet. i get that. the reality is that this car is going to be slow. sure on track days it will be fun however for everyday drivability, it will suck to not be able to make a pass on the free way cause that Honda Odyssey is on your bumper. thats all i am saying.

i may do 3k when im bored, and on a dirt road(%10 unrealistic real life situations ), i still have 8450 rpms to play with, 9200 when i have my ems plugged in

highest ive ever revved it to on a drop, was 3200 and that achieves a 2.1 0-60 ft time on the strip with street tires...

I'm not saying that you or I won't occasionally get this car or others moving quickly, but really, 90% of the time if it's your DD, you're not going to be doing those kinds of launches at the red light. If you are, you're just as bad as those damn teens you bitch about.
