I hated being an attorney...there were some truly gratifying moments, but the endless work hours, insane stress load, and sleepless nights were taking a toll on me.

I left the legal profession for now, and though I make less, I get greater satisfaction from my new job as a teacher and enjoy life much more.

You only get one life, why be miserable?

Yeah sounds weird....it would be nice if I could get a change in environment, like going out west and work and school...still the hard part is knowing where to start.

I'm all ears if anyone has any advice, and to the OP, I feel like you can go to school anytime in your life as long as you're not stuck with responsibilities (kids, family, debt) but you can only be in the right place at the right time for something you love to do for all your life once.

I'm still looking for it my self
As someone who recently went back to school after working for many years, it is a strange feeling. To put it another way, I often looked around the room at my classmates and thought to myself..."I'm too old for this shit."

Ah I think I word it wrong. I've been going to school and working full time for the last 5 years. I haven't graduated because work sometimes has taken too much of my time making it so that sometimes i have to withdrawl or take less credits. going to school full time and not working at all is going to be an experience for me. But if I could make the choice I like to keep working and going to school at the same time but I like my environment to change IE the place I live..

I am a High School technology/pre-engineering teacher. I love my job. I get to play with a lot of different toys and show kids really neat stuff and then get to see what they come up with.

Job satisfaction trumps money!

I'm a ASE tech by trade, and I hate it.. I enjoy working on hot rods and custom cars.. I hate being a "grease monkey" changing wheels and oil and that shit.. I have 100k in tools and at one time needed a select set of wrenches and a impact gun, because the shop just changed oil and tires for what seemed like months.. Shit gets old..

That said, I landed a military contract job, as a electrical tech 1 with Raytheon, and made almost 30$ an hour just keeping batteries charged and swapped out.. Easiest cake job ever and I liked it.. But contract jobs come and go, and right now seem to be more going then coming.. As of now I'm unemployed but make more on that then most tech jobs around here are offering..

My favorite job was heavy equipment mechanic.. But not on things like dirty ass bull dozers.. More like the company stored the equipment, and we assembled and swapped blades and that stuff.. Also went and built some of the biggest bulldozers and dump trucks in the world.. But it wasn't the job as much as it was like hanging out with your best friends 8-12 hours a day..

Now I'd love to just work on race cars or high performance cars, and bikes.. Stuff like that..

No shortage of them here in DC. Of course I would never recommend to anyone to ever move here...I can't wait to get out of here myself...

I was TDY in Maryland last year for about 6 weeks, I decided then I never wanted to live and work there.

I'm actually about to re-enlist in the AF in a couple of weeks. I was debating on getting out and looking for contractor jobs, but I enjoy what I do too much to get out.

They just about shut fort Irwin down as far as contract work.. At least on my side of the work.. No soldiers to train, no reason for us.. They have some mechanic work, but again.. These types of jobs swap contracts a lot, and it seems the 20 years some have worked there are hard to do know..

Good decision. If you like it, stick with it. I retired from the CG in 2011...I miss it, but it was time to move on...
