Who likes their job? Time for me to change jobs
Just looking for ideas. Obviously, its a "job" so it won't always be enjoyable, but all in all, who enjoys their job?
I've been waiting tables for 13 years, and for the hours and flexibility as well as the great money, you really can't beat it. I've outgrown it, though. Just not fun anymore and restaurant politics are getting worse and worse. I'm not looking for the perfect job, but something that people enjoy. I was playing with the idea of becoming a mechanic, but for every positive comment I see, I find ten more negative. I know there are good jobs out there, but the happy mechanic making decent money, seems to be a bit of a rarity. Playing with the idea of something in finance as I love money (as odd as that sounds), not physically, but the puzzle of creating a budget, and moving it around into different forms of investments. So who loves their job? What do you do and do you make a decent living? (you don't need to post your income) I'm not looking to make a killing, but I do need to support a family. |
I am a purchasing and sales director for a wheel company.
I love my job. I have always done sales and before picking this gig up I was managing some Sprint stores and spent the beginning of my career in wireless sales. Sales lets you cross apply your serving skills to the customer service part of the job and allows you to build relationships that you will need long standing. I can't even begin to account all of the people I have met throughout my sales career that have helped me outside of the job in one way or another. You still also get the budgeting aspect of the financial industry you're looking for. Managing budgets and allocations is something you do alot in a fast paced sales environment because you often find yourself competing against quotas and other sales reps. The income can be very rewarding. You budget according to commission checks and whatever base you get. I am 25 and living well above average and I did it without getting a college degree to boot. I don't know how long that lucky streak will last, but hey I'll ride the waves while they are here. Sales is kind of where I found my home and niche. It really is transparent of your individual skills and what you can provide and I have found many places overlooking the lack of a degree for someone to just better their company as a whole. Sales isn't for everyone though. For every successful sales person I have met I have watched hundreds more crumble. |

I'm also open to getting a degree if necessary. I'm 31, so fairly young and I pick up things quickly. If it will help me get ahead, I'm all in. |

My jobs are nice, early morning office job - simple paperwork stuff some billing
Than at night I work at fye (music store) I like helping people, and I also like sitting on my ass and not talking to anyone haha so I get the best of both worlds. Been thinking about trying to do bartending.. I know it'll be hard but if I could swing that than I can up my weekly pay aka college fund :) Honestly I'm the type of person who can find the good things in shitty situations, you just gotta look harder for it. And also remember they are paying you- so some money is better than none :) |
Good luck on your quest!

Trades are good money, and you will always have the means to work for yourself later on. And you don't loose years of salary/debts accumulation studying.

Work? Psshhtt... Ain't nobody got time for that. Hookers & blow brings in all the income you'll ever need
