The factory throttle body @ 3" is huge for the displacement of this engine. It's more than sufficient. The issue that needs to get around is how these things are choked up by 3 catalytic converters.

Hey Guys, figured I would help answer some questions.

There is no core exchange required - it's a complete brand new unit. It works with the factory ECU and it requires no additional tuning or modifications.

I have 3 coming in next week. PM me if you want to get one ordered.

I'm not an expert at the engineering dynamics of throttle bodies but I am a consumer who does a lot of research for the products I buy. I did a fair amount of research when looking to upgrade the throttle body on my 97 m3 (3.2l inline 6) and the percentage of the increase in area was one important aspect. I realize that comparing engines is rather pointless but i wanted to point out the following:

FRS

stock - 76mm
cusco - 78mm

Increase of 2.6%

M3

stock - 63.83mm
Dinan - 66mm +6.46%
Riot Racing - 68mm +11.9%

There are other aspects to BBTB such as smoothness of the chamber and the single vs. dual arm. However an increase of 2.6% makes the part seem more of a bragging right rather than a performance part.

Maybe some of the tuners who having been working with the FRS can tell us if there is any need for a larger throttle body or at what power/modifications point more flow is needed.

If the stock throttle body's O.D. Is 76mm I don't think cusco will make it bigger from the outside. I bet will be the inside instead. Anyone know what's the stock I.D. Of the TB ?

If no one knows, I will pull my TB this weekend and check !

Best answer.

76mm is the stock Internal Diameter.

Is it actually 76mm at the throttle plate, or is that the I.D. at the tip of the inlet?? Most 2L engines run WAY smaller TB's than this. Typically 70mm is a huge TB on a 2L.

I sprung for a Dinan OTB for my m3, but it was part of a tuned kit, cai package and software to match it all. The OTB from cusco by itself for that money...pass

Measured the TB here. Mostly approximately, but not bad at all.
