I hadn't turned on the AC or turned on the air recirc, all I did was change what vents were blowing. I just can't figure this thing out.
The reason why it is ice cold when switched to "windshield" and back is because, in "windshield" mode it actually uses the AC to defog your front windows quicker (AC button does not light up in these situations)...Standard safety feature.

My Celica has this "issue" although I don't consider it a problem. It's more noticeable after a few lift spirts (engaging lift at 6200rpm and holding till the ~8000rpm red line, shift, and repeat till 3rd or 4th gear, depending on location. The 2ZZ-GE was meant for this.)

In other words, as the engine warms up the warmer the air from the vents is. I've always figured the vents get their air from the engine bay or close to it. As mentioned before, switch to recirculate and it should go away/reduce. Turning on A/C also overpowers it.

Otherwise, if you're too lazy to turn on the heat when it's needed, simply hit the throttle lol

YES!. Maybe someone will come out with a "vent window" conversion kit for those little triangles of glass in the door.
