a thought about the warm air coming from the vents...
 

do you think it's because of the intake sound generator tube? maybe it's bringing intake air into the cabin?

i dont think so, the warm air comes through the ac vents, the intake sound generator comes from the passenger footwell.

The vents and sound induction tube are completely separate systems, it is a physical impossibility. Second, the sound induction tube is closed at one end (the end in the engine bay). the sound tube is connected to a rubber diaphragm that is fully sealed and allows no air to pass through it.

Someone should look and see if the blower behind the dash is operating with the fan knob in the off position or if the temp control is not fully activating or opening/closing a valve deep in the dash.

no all cars do this, its just the air from outside coming through the vents. if you want this stopped then turn on the button which allows the car to reserc air from the cabin, as if your going to use max ax.

This isn't anything new. At least in the last few Toyota's I've owned.
My 2005 XRS, the 2009 XRS and my 2010 Rav4 did this.
Even my 95 and 98 Corollas do this.

I got in the habit of changing the flow to the floor. Or just closing the vents.
It never occurred to me to switch to "recirc" to stop it. I never did like that option unless it was a necessity. Having it on recirc all the time seems to contaminate the filter prematurely and then it starts to smell funny.

Ninja Edit: Another thing I forgot to mention is the 86 engine compartment seems to throw off a lot more heat. Moreso than most cars. At least that was my initial thought when I opened the hood. I think it may be more pronounced since things are a little more compact.

But, I have to say, I love driving with the windows down in this car. There surprisingly little turbulence in the cabin. Even at highway speeds.

I would agree. I think I may have been misunderstood. I don't drive with the windows up, the vents closed and/or on recirc. Mmmkaaaay...LOL

Point I was trying to make was from my experience (Mind you, I have the attention span of a gnat at times) is I'll forget it's on recirc even though there's a little light to remind me. It's been in the 90's and up with high humidity lately so I alternate between AC and open windows. It get's cool enough here in the evening to keep them down.

Even with the A/C on?

I wish I could drive with the windows down, but it's been over 100°F almost every day here in Arkansas since I've gotten my FR-S. Most of the time I leave it on the setting halfway between full floor and floor/windshield, with the recirculator on.

Always have the windows down unless a bee/wasp is trying to fly in, I hate those things.

I've been guilty of having the AC on with the windows down lately, been so hot here in NC. Usually it's only required when stopped, otherwise the wind is enough to keep me cool. Hell, I usually just sweat it out anyways.

Can't wait for fall!
