Do this.. there is no Tach / engine RPM signal from the ECU to the DLC, newer cars all use CAN communications. You can tap into the coil pack and it will give you an RPM signal when the ECU grounds the coil for it to fire.

for the Number one cylinder its called IGT1, its white red at the ECU and at the coil pack its blue yellow..

Thank you for the info. But would you happen to have the diagram and the way to tap into the vehicle speed signal as well? I've never done this or any electrical wiring on a car before let alone a new car with CAN signal.

There is no Speed sensor wire from this type of system. The ABS system takes each wheel speed sensor reading them calculates it to a vehicle speed then sends it via the CAN BUS system. Only place you can pick one up is from the wheel speed sensor, BUT its not recommended.

It probably heads over to the DLC2 connector or something, because it isn't heading to any other systems in any of the wiring diagrams which is where I initially checked. Every other ECU, etc. uses the CAN-BUS to get the tach signal, but as I said there is an output dedicated to it on the ECU. It's not shown in any wiring diagrams, but it is mentioned in the RM.

Nice of them to do that.

Jeff
What about AD2-37 on the driver's side? I think that's where A35-15 leads to (unless I've read the wiring diagram wrong).

Also, where in the engine bay would I find TACH?

I know it has been a while....but is anyone still looking for a wire to tap for Tach signal? There is a gray wire coming off of one the modules on the passenger side you can tap. I tapped it last night to my boost control gauge to get the shift light working. Worked like a charm. Let me know if anyone needs a picture.

Thanks but all good. Tapped into the W-R (White with red stripe) wire out of Pin 9 of the AC1 connector.

It's on top of the wire bundle and was relatively, for the Auto electrician, to get to.

Worked a treat for anyone interested. Can be traced to Pin 21 the ECM A36(D) which is inside the cabin.

Can I ask what shift light you are using?? That wire would be for the Ignition Coil #1. Were you able to use its signal as an RPM signal or did your shift light have a way to convert the signal to use for RPM?

So there is no speedometer signal wire we can tap into? I'm getting a tach gauge with optional display which I want to make into the speedometer reading. Anyone found a solution or know which wire that'd be?
