MPSS are pretty low grip, and last long enough that Michelin offers a mileage guarantee.

FWIW, the PSS's replacement, the S4 Sport (or whatever) is a better wet traction tire but not dry. It's also not as durable on track (this is what I've read from multiple sources, not personal experience). The PSS's were pretty damn good on track IMO, for a 300 TW tire, but their ultimate grip levels aren't super impressive and after 1+ year of heat cycling I'd get really frustrated with my cornering speeds.

All tires have some limit. But it's not the very casual throttle application as on stock tires. At least not without a major power bump or while carrying a lot more speed. Most people on public roads aren't going to feel comfortable pushing hard enough to break away on good tires. One thing is for sure, this car is a lot more fun to drive on shit tires than for example a FWD open diff car.

What's the stickiest DOT approved tire I can get for short distances, like no more than 5 miles?

As in a tire that heats up quick and sticks super well, like an autocross or time attack DOT tire, for a quick canyon run from home, but not a tire that needs the heat handling of an HPDE tire. It doesn't need to run hard for 30 minutes or even 15 minutes. It needs to run hard for 5-8 minutes. Say 6 miles of twisty road once.

Not sure if it’s the stickiest but the RE-71R is a popular autox tire that could also be streeted. The BFG R1 or Hoosier R7 have more grip but both of those would kill you in the rain. Also much more expensive. |

The Hoosier's come with warnings about not really using them on the road. Now I wonder how much stickier RE-71R is vs Cup 2.
