Per OP's comments, you tend to be well above the speed limit to enjoy this car which is a bummer - it's definitely only OK to find its limits on the track. The PDK in the GT3 is amazing, shifts are like gunshots in PDK sport mode at 9K RPM but I still prefer the manual in the BRZ for daily enjoyment because its still fun even at low RPMs - if I can upgrade to a manual GT3 someday I will!

The GT3 is certainly more special, the interior, the exhaust note, the big wing and most of all the carbon bucket seats - you can have them when you rip them from my cold dead hands, so good! The climb from 5k to 9k RPM makes me smile from ear to ear every time.
The BRZ is a great car in day to day traffic and a blast up the mountains, more stealthy, has handling and good looks. It's more nimble, feels smaller and more approachable/playful.

Have you ever considered equalizing the tires? You may be shocked by the BRZ if you run a CUP2 or similar on it!

I need new tires and I’ve been debating the merits of sticking with the stock low grip setup or going with something sticky. I love how easy the car is to play with on the limits of traction now, but I also wonder how it would feel on sticky tires. What do you think Mike?

I drove the same car at the Porsche track in Atlanta and I really liked it. you're right the price of that thing is crazy but I think you get what you pay for in this case.

it's not even fair to compare the GT3 to a BRZ. they're not in the same class for anything at all except maybe both are 2 door cars.

Great review, I really enjoyed it, well written. I have Michelin Pilot Super Sports on mine (225/40/R18). Don’t worry you can still get the tail out if you want. The limits are higher and it is more predictable, it just doesn’t surprise you or catch you out like the stock tyres do. Unless you enjoy that.

I enjoyed the shit tires and sliding around and when first going to real tires I sort of missed the sliding around. Once you find the new limits of real tires you will not miss the sliding around as much anymore. I for sure would take real tires over shit tires. In a perfect world I would be able to press a button to slap banana peels on my tires. Hahaha

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are great tires, but they're nowhere close to the performance level of Cup 2s (what comes on a GT3 RS).

Are they overkill for the BRZ/86 though? I've often wondered about them, but I've also heard tread wear is pretty bad. I'm guessing good for the track and not so much the street?

The Cup2's are also $280 for a 225/45/17. They have a 180tw but those numbers are sort of useless for determining actual treadwear. For DD I've had 180tw tires outlast 200tw tires.

Sticky tires don't change the balance of the car; they increase the limits.

Drive the car hard/fast enough, and "real tires" will step out the same as "shit tires".
