Another long phone call with SoA today. They're stonewalling me on the "week of 9/10" date range. I asked whether all of the new production BRZs were going to need replacement ECUs eventually, and if not, why I'm waiting and whether an ECU could be pilfered from production. My CSR wouldn't answer that question.

I lobbed an e-mail grenade over the wall to some subaru.com e-mail addresses I found attached to important-sounding titles like Director and SVP. I received one reply that my e-mail had been forwarded to somebody who could help, but I have no way of knowing whether that's true, and supposing it is, whether that's just code for saying it was blasted into the morass of unending sorrow known as Subaru of America Customer Service.

Still no confidence this is actually going to get resolved, but I'm promised a status update on 9/5 in the AM.

I looked into lemon laws in CA, and for so-called consumer protection laws, they are just utterly effing toothless. My reading (I'm no attorney) is thus:

Option 1) Car replacement. In this case, you get a replacement model, but the manufacturer has no obligation to compensate you for aftermarket anything, such as tint, or paint correction.

Option 2) Refund. Except not, because you actually get the pro rata value of the car assuming a useful life of 120k mi. So, in my case, I would only get 97.5% back, and again, they aren't responsible for tint or paint correction.

So, as you can see, you take it on the chin either way.

Sucks.

And I still don't have my BRZ. Really loving this customer service, Subaru. It's like nobody is even trying. I don't feel like anybody is on my side, I just get a bunch of "we're working very hard to resolve this issue" and no evidence that there's any truth behind the words. I'm pretty angry that none of the more senior Subaru staff I e-mailed have replied meaningfully. This is an embarrassment. They should be heavily motivated to get involved.

Hey Bazi did scion or local dealer extend your warranty? If my car is in shop for weeks I am pushing for extended warranty since my engine is technically rebuilt. Too bad I paid cash, I would also ask for payment base on how long they keep my car. DRIVE LARGE

Yes, any tips on how to request the extended warranty would be great.

Yeah that was the first thing I asked for, they stonewalled me on it to this day. They've offered me everything else but that... Not sure what hesitation they have. If they are confident in their product I think we who've had this issue deserve at least that layer of protection.

I'm just a bit uncomfortable with having my BRAND NEW car torn into by a bunch of lcoal techs... I bought a car that was supposed to be assembled and tested under factory conditions with all kinds of precautions and automation to make sure that things are done right. Not in a dirty bay at a dealership. An extended warranty could alleviate some of that worry.

I suspect I'll have an iPhone 5 before I have my BRZ back.

Wouldn't have guessed that a few months ago.

So, I can add myself to the CEL club. No issues or idle drops until today. I'm at 425 miles, my idle dipped, car shook a bit, then the car threw a CEL. I'm going to scan it when I get home, but I'm assuming it's the standard P0019 error.

Bummer.

SubieNate (or anyone else in Temecula)-
Is Toyota of Temecula doing anything for you, or are you going somewhere else for the repair?

Sorry to hear that...

Who in CA is not having this problem?

It seems that the first few CA owners have not had this issue, while many of the guys who purchased in the last two months have had this issue...maybe its a bad batch of supplier parts.

Mine is at Scion of Temecula. I didn't feel comfortable with driving it any farther with the light on. Since Toyota corporate is getting involved in this I feel that which dealership it goes to isn't super important.

Was wondering this too, but I was thinking it could be that CA only has 91 gas. Maybe people running 91 only are more likely to get this issue?

It sure would be nice to get an answer from Toyota/Subaru about this...I feel like they should know by now what is happening...
