And folks, this is why you DO NOT buy a 1st year model of a vehicle. Especially one that is built from the ground up. Good luck to current FR-S/BRZ owners, I would be pissed if I were in your situation.

I figured Toyota, a company with consistently high reliability ratings, and Subaru, who made my 214k trooper of a wagon, could collaborate on something and have the result come out just as reliable as either one of their products are on their own. Subaru has had their issues with the 2.5's and headgaskets and the Legacy turbo failures but other than that they are extremely reliable, especially the NA cars.

It was a touchless wash. The car does need a good hand wash now since there's that dirty film on it that no amount of power washing with just water and soap will get off. The dealership still owes me a proper 'detailing', but their last attempt left a bunch of swirl on the sides which I wasn't happy about. You could see the hologram effect on the doors. The car was also delivered with a bunch of boot scratches on the door sill which are still there.

So I stopped by the dealership today and the service lady said they have not heard anything. I guess it seems as long as I don't have a CEL then it's a low to nonexistant priority.

My gas mileage seems noticeably worse lately. I've NEVER had worse than 10l/100km until this last week. Of course my 4Runner did that too. It had good mileage when brand new, but after 3000kms it seemed to get 100km less per tank.

Are you talking about the same Toyota that built those pesky oil sluding engines and Subaru who built the WRX transmission made of glass?

Every car maker has issues, especially 1st year models. It happens

They're probably backlogged from all the people wanting to turn off their DRL's...

As a Subaru enthusiast, it is my opinion that the glass transmission issue is far overblown. YMMV, IMHO, all that good stuff.

On another note, got the call from the dealer. I've been given a case number, they're not allowed to touch the car again or even clear the codes until Toyota corporate engineers get back to them tomorrow. Guess that means it was no bueno.

I'm at ~300miles now, and haven't had any issues (hope it stays that way).

I bought it at Penske Toyota/Scion in Rancho Santa Margarita. Closest dealer that had an ultramarine with a manual and not a ton of dealer options added. All it has is an upgraded alarm which I'm okay with.

They were awesome to work with and knocked off a good chunk of the alarm price for me as well as the $1k paint/interior protection.

I'm having it serviced locally, I've heard mixed things so far. I just don't want to drive it a large number of miles for service if there's a real issue.

I know this is off topic but I'm also in Temecula (French Valley area). When we all get our car issues resolved, we should all meet up sometime. My whiteout FRS currenty resides at Temecula Toyota in their service department and has been there since the 10th.

Boy, I just went for the most amazing drive up the coast in my BRZ, and...oh, oh, wait, no, I didn't, because it's effing busted, has been for two weeks, and I don't expect it back for anther two or three if I'm incredibly lucky.

Sure wish somebody would wake up and pay attention to me. This is pretty sad.

So update,

The service manager at Penske Scion called me tonight and said that he's fixed one already with help from the local corporate engineers and that if I'd like I can have it towed to him to get taken care of or he can make sure that Temecula Scion does the correct repair.

If he can get the parts sooner I might have it towed, otherwise I'd rather not give Temecula Scion the finger as I'd like to comfortably take my car there for basic maintenance without any awkward "you didn't trust us eh?" kind of attitude.

In any case, it's nice to have SOMEONE that seems to be trying to get things resolved quickly and in a manner that displays some empathy for the customer with a downed BRAND NEW car.

I had the CEL and TC light after about 30km, but I noticed that at first the CEL blinked at me a few times and went away. After a few more shudders and idle dips it came on solid. Since the CEL became solid I haven't experienced the idle dip.

Because of this I'm tempted to continue driving it until a more concise answer and solution is found to the issue. I've read most of this thread, but nothing popped out at me that resembled my situation.

Has anyone else has the idle dip stop after TC and CEL came on? Judging from the summation of this thread I'm still operating under the belief that there is no consistent answer for why or how this is happening and how to fix it.

Idle dip is not the problem here. It's only one of the sympthoms of a problem.

You are free to continue driving your car but is it smart? Don't know.

I know it is not the problem? I also don't want to have my car sit for a month in a dealership with mechanics scratching their heads and replacing a dozen things that are not the cause of the problem.

I don't want a paperweight because I couldn't be patient and wait for a fix.

I'm not giving them ANY reason to deny warranty coverage.

I just dropped my FRS at scion dealer. My FRS has CEL and SL with no idle issue now. The service tech retrieved the code 19 and told me I had to leave it. I hate knowing it will be weeks before I get it back, but at least they gave me loaner.
