In the end I think all cars have some problems, some more than others. It all depends on if they are fixed or not. Hell i had a miss shift in my celica and had bent valves. Toyota fixed it under warranty. +many other issues all fixed with no hassles.
370s. The newer VQ engine. Yes the 370 has been out for several years now so most of the problems are well known.

I think any problems, even with a small population of cars, would be bad news for Toyota and their investors. Hell, the recall for the FR-S/BRZ instruction manual got more press than the average murder case, so I think this could qualify to be newsworthy.
ummm, no. Ive had two tacomas one of which was the first batch of 2005's and my 2010 im selling. about half what you said above is innaccurate, or assumption/speculation based upon emotion.

Id take the post below vvvv to heart.

They will work the issues, but I can guarantee you they aren't losing any sleep over it.

You really have to take a step back and look at it from a 3rd person point of view without emotion tied into it. The only thing you can do right now is to take the car to the dealer and allow them to work on it (this gives you records which you can invoke lemon law with later on should you need to), call/write Toyota/Subaru about your issues, and keep records of everything. If you want to try reaching out to the media, that is up to you as well, but chances are unless they have an issue with their own test car, they aren't going to do much about it. What would really draw attention is if you were able to approach them with statistics. That's why it's important for folks to report it to Toyota/Subaru, but at the same time you can try to gather stats based on the user base here on this forum. You would have to know how many folks have issues, but also how many owners don't have issues to get a percentage of affected cars.

Not speculation at all. It's pretty well known that the 86 project stalled and almost collapsed because of internal affairs. Subaru didn't even think Toyota had what it took to make this car. The project was shelved for some time until Subaru bit the bullet and made the platform for them. There was an entire article on Autoguide about it.

I don't think there's anything emotional about expecting a car that's been in development for 5 years to work properly, especially after how much it was hyped and reviewed. That's just being fair to your customers. Of course every car has issues first year. I've had a first year production car in the past, my friends do now, and none of us had to have this many components replaced internally. Sounds more like you are the one emotionally attached to the romanticized "hachi-roku" ideal.

Have they never heard of McMaster-Carr? Parker Hannifin? I could cut a damn mold for an o-ring and shoot parts for you before 8/31. I would flip.
The only reason I haven't flipped is because I am out of town anyway until the 8th so I dont need them to rush right now. They also told me that they prefer to use Toyota parts rather than aftermarket. Normally, I'd just tell them to use aftermarket but since the OEM part will be there and installed before I get back anyway, I'm ok with that. And I'd rather them hold onto the car for now anyway. That way my wife doesnt run the miles up on her before I've gotten the chance to really driver her.

Bought mine last night, the day it arrived at the dealership. Drove it home ~90 miles (100 miles on it now, 10 when I got it) and got a CEL and traction control light this morning.

Taking it in at 12 to get things started...

Sigh. I traded in my old car because it was getting long in the tooth and some of the maintenance things I was going to have to do were going to cost more than I wanted to put into it and the lack of warranty meant I would be stranded during repairs. no bueno.

Guess the consolation at this point is that A. it gets taken care of for free and B. I get a free rental. Hoping for a resolution soon. I don't even have a guarantee that mine has this issue, but I did notice a couple low idle moments last night but didn't think anything of it.

I meant Toyota, not the dealer. Parker is probably where their o-rings come from.

Anyway, it's now 3:00p their time, and I haven't gotten a call yet. It really, really bugs me when people say they'll call and then they don't.

Am I being impatient? Maybe. But the alternative is letting this slip YET ANOTHER day. Even if there isn't an update yet, you said you would call, so follow through and just tell me there isn't an update. Thus the feeling that I need to micromanage these yahoos...

I need to start billing for my time.

I live in Temecula as well (south end, in Redhawk area), and drive an ultramarine FR-S. I'm sure we'll cross paths sooner or later. Where did you buy yours from? Who is servicing it? Toyota of Temecula? Just curious how your service is, should I need warranty work in the future.

I'm at ~300miles now, and haven't had any issues (hope it stays that way).

I think I've already seen you around, but while I was still driving my 1999 Impreza L wagon.

I bought it at Penske Toyota/Scion in Rancho Santa Margarita. Closest dealer that had an ultramarine with a manual and not a ton of dealer options added. All it has is an upgraded alarm which I'm okay with.

They were awesome to work with and knocked off a good chunk of the alarm price for me as well as the $1k paint/interior protection.

I'm having it serviced locally, I've heard mixed things so far. I just don't want to drive it a large number of miles for service if there's a real issue.

Well, apparently the main office suffered a utility strike nearby and didn't have phone service until just now. It happens.

Anyway, "week of 9/10" is when the ECU will ship from Japan. Which, with my luck thusfar, means 9/14, and maybe it gets here 9/18.

I thanked my CSR and asked for his boss to call me, so hopefully I find myself at yet another tier of customer service tomorrow AM.

One thing I really haven't developed a good sense for is what level of empowerment the customer service folks actually have to resolve my issue...it sure doesn't feel like much.

I wonder how they track outstanding cases and choose what to spend time on. With the number of things they've tried at this point and their continued inability to resolve the issue, shouldn't my case be more interesting? Why do I keep needing to fight for attention?

Crummy. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.

I just about bought that one from them. Did you work with Scott? I went with Longo, after a few recommended Jeff Chang. Jeff was able to put my name on the car 1 month ago, so I went with him. Let me know how Toyota of Temecula treats you...

They told me the one I bought just came in Yesterday so I don't think it would be the same car.

I worked with Amir. He was great, really advocated for me with the manager to get the price down as much as possible.

When I get my car back we'll have to go for a drive sometime.

That was definitely the car. It was the only ultramarine MT at RSM that came in this week. They called me Saturday to say it would be available this week. Monday I got another call, saying it would be ready Tuesday or Wednesday. Another member on the forum was looking at it as well, but backed out because of the current CEL issues. He was just a little nervous. He also said they installed an alarm, but (according to Scott at RSM) could remove it for him.

Anyway, good to hear you picked it up. We'll have to do a run through Rice and Rainbow Canyon sometime (quick 20min loop). I'll shoot you a PM with my information.

FYI...I just picked up my FR-S last weekend as well!
