Plus for 300lbs more, you get a hard roof, trunk, more interior space, more power and torque.

What I want to conclude at is: Mazda has kept this 'great' formula for years. But what they NEED to do is innovate and make it better, now that Toyobaru is hurting them and Nissan wants a piece of the cake, like that fat kid in elementary
as far as sreet prices go even the six speed is cheaper. especially if you settle for a brand new 2012. for the miata, the 5 speed might even be better than the 6 so i wouldnt really consider that an upgrade. i think we also have to consider the penalty of a convertible is at least 100 lbs and almost 2 grand so i think if we want the closest apples to apples comparison it should be against the vert frs.

imo, innovation is almost the enemy of cars like this. the frs and cars like it are simple, quintessential sports cars. how do you make a miata better? its philosophy since day one has been one of lightness that whole car and driver as one. innovation has taken us away from that. sure things like the gtr and 918 are awesome but at what cost? i dont think we need to change a formula that has worked for just about the entire history of automobiles.

Ditch the hardtop convertible for a ragtop.

I think the new one is on the right track though.

New 240 would be cool. Something to match the old one we've got.

Let the wars begin! Bring back the mid 90s competition!

Mazda you're next!

Honda, screw you and your civic, bring back the Teggy and S2k!

P.S. that render is ugly imo

Bring to the plate lightweight, RWD, cheap with estimated power outputs.
Swapped civic > teggy

But with no Integra there are no sweet motors to swap into Civics, right?

Nissan comfirms small sports car

Seems to me we are not getting a next gen silvia

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is one of the very few compact sports cars that grabs a fair share of the limelight. Thanks to the increased demand for such compact sports cars, it is no surprise that other manufacturers are planning to join the bandwagon. BMW, for instance, is planning to launch a Z2 to rival the Miata.
And now, thanks to the confirmation from Nissan’s executive vice president Andy Palmer at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, Nissan will also accompany BMW in building such a vehicle, sans the open-top option from what we can tell.
This little sports car will be the entry level model for Nissan’s two-door sporty offerings, sitting below the Z-models and the mighty GT-R. Bear in mind, however, that this upcoming sports car isn’t meant to rival the award-hogging Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S.
Expect the car to be designed by the same hands that gave birth to the design of the Juke, so we can all anticipate a more youth-oriented approach.
Under the hood, Palmer mentions that the car will be "guilt-free.” What could be guiltier for a vehicle than polluting the environment? So, expect either an electric or a hybrid powertrain, though we have our bets placed on a hybrid system.
Palmer confirms that a concept model of the entry-level sports car will be shown off within a year. So, expect its production version to land in our shores somewhere around 2015.
We’re sort of excited about such a model being announced from the makers of the Godzilla. It gives more people an opportunity to enjoy sporty two-door model in a less expensive package

Nissan is developing a brand new smaller sports car which will be slotted below the 370Z.
In an interview given to Car & Driver in Detroit at NAIAS, Nissan's vice president Andy Palmer said a new smaller sports car is in the works and will be that type of car "you love it or hate it." He didn't say much else except for the fact a concept previewing the production model will be unveiled within a year.
Sitting beneath the GT-R and the 370Z, this new sports car will not be a Subaru BRZ / Toyota GT 86 / Scion FR-S rival as it will take a more youth-oriented approach much like the Juke. Since Palmer said it will be a "guilt-free" car, we can only assume he meant some form of electrification.
