Nissan Reviving 240sx?

Taken from insideline
Quote:

With all media buzz surrounding Toyota's FT-86 and Honda's CR-Z lately, Nissan, which considers itself the preeminent Japanese sports-car maker, is planning to strike back with an all-new version of the 240SX. After getting the proverbial axe in 2002, the 240SX (we call it the Silvia here) will feature styling and packaging loosely based on the Foria concept car that was shown at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.
The next 240SX will be built on a shortened version of Nissan's FR-L platform, the same used for the 370Z and G sedan, meaning that the power will be transferred to the rear wheels.
The resurrected 240SX front-engine/rear-drive 2+2 coupe, will retain its predecessor's image (the S15) as Nissan's entry-level performance car. The engine is expected to come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged inline-4 with about 200 horsepower. There also may be a naturally-aspirated powerplant added to the mix, one that will cater to the bargain hunters.

There will be plenty of options offered including a flamboyant body kit. We hear that the car will tip the scales around 2800 lb., so expect 0-60-mph times in the six to seven-second range.

That the new 240SX will be a popular tuner car is a given, so don't be surprised to see 300- to 400-horsepower conversions (or more) soon after the car is introduced in 2011 or 2012. As for price, we haven't heard much, but expect it to be right on top of those of the FT-86 and next-generation Mazda MX-5.-- Mak Tokuyama, reporting from Japan.

This is so exciting

Its seems, the more I look, that this has been rumored for a few years now. Here are 2 blog posts that date Nov 2007

Competition improves the breed. Bring it on.

p.s. The Foria was a fairly ugly concept.

This time around the FT-86 is probably pushing Nissan to release something to compete with it. I am not surprised to hear that the 240 may come back.

They were saying the FT was on-again off-again, this thing has been much worse. Right after the S15 production ended some rumors were thrown around. Then, right around the same time as the FT was announced, they sounded pretty serious. Now again..
Like you guys are saying, competition is great for us, but I'm not holding my breath either.

1.8L? I think they can do better than that. At least put a 2.0L in there.

Either way, this car is going to put up a strong fight against the 86.

1.8 with 200hp? Sounds like a lightly modded CA18DET.

I hope they do make an official announcement on a new Silvia line. Not only would be awesome just to have the car around again, it puts pressure on Toyota to keep the FT-86 in the right state-of-mind, particularly in the weight department.

its a 1.8 Turbo, whats wrong with that?

cool, but i doubt it will hold a candle to the ft's low center of gravity engine-placement

ya I think the ft-86 will have the upper hand cuz of that. Like a s/c or t/c could up the hp if needed. I am still leaning towards the ft-86 cuz it just looks amazing. I wonder how the 240 will look like though.
