It's not about displacement. Toyota hybrids hold intake valves open longer to reduce the air they take in which gives a pretty big efficiency increase, while I think Honda hybrids don't have anything special done to the motor. Also, I think the Insight gets screwed over by the EPA tests, they get more mpgs in real life, but yes not as much as the Prius.

All I care for is that it performs to the expectations of what Toyota said it would and more. If KIA was to make a really good RWD sports car I would also consider it just like I consider the Gencoupe. 5 years ago I would talk crap about both of those companies but now I'm 26 years old and it's time to grow the fuck up. I stopped being a badge enthusiast a long time ago but I see a ton of them on this site and it's so funny because Scion is still Toyota no matter how you slice it.

I remember seeing a pic of a Hybrid motor mite had been based on a EJ?
But asfar as I know nothing came of it.
Also Subaru has stopped production of there electric cars for a few years.

A thought hit me as i was seeing the commercials for the new Scion tC's...where would the FT-86 fit in their lineup? I mean interms of HP the tc is at 180 and they advertise it to the daily commuter/sporty car anyway. Idk to me it doesnt make sense, if anything the 86 would eat tc sales. However under Toyota you can easily distinguish the 86 from the Corolla or in Lexus from the IS easily. Dunno just a thought

Plus the Toyota brand will make it easier to price north of $20K creating an upsell channel for Scion owners. However, it's really looking like this will be a Scion. Especially with the upcoming Scion concept. In my mind, that more or less seals it.

They never said it's a concept, could be the iQ. I was chatting with some buddies of mine, fellow gearheads, and one of them is also in business majors with me - both think toyota wont go with scion with it. We shall see...D-Day is coming

I'm going to the ny auto show two weeks from now, and I'm hoping not to see an 86.

Unless they're ready to unveil the interior, what you see in there (if you can see much through the heavily tinted windows) will likely be a placement mock-up.
